|
|
I have a ZV/JU4R3 and it is 180 out from a 009. Someone mentioned that someone may have ran it on a type III motor. I guess they run 180 out and that may be why it's like that. Can anyone confirm this? The motor was set up for a 009 so maybe I need to reset the distributor gear in the motor? Or do I need to pull the pin on the distributor and flip that around?
Thank you in advance. _________________ 64 Type II

I believe that is a 64/65 1500cc Bus distributor.
Type 3s do have the distributor gear in a different spot though.
I don't believe it it's different from a normal distributor but it could be different than an 009.
Someone probably put your engine drive gear in the wrong spot at some point...
Can you just flip the distributor gear on the bottom? Seems like a bad idea to me but I don't know. _________________ How to Post Photos

That's what I figured. I just wanted to make sure that a Vac advanced and a 009 "should" sit in the same direction.
Vac advanced
009
The crappier thing is the fact that the motor is sitting at TDC and neither of the distributors line up. Looks like motor dude put the gear in wrong. _________________ 64 Type II

i love 40hp builds!!
a lot of debate on the distributor drive gear. I usually do it last, but some engine builders put it in the case before putting the halves together.
anyway, since I do it last, i've had a hard time lining up the gear line perfectly horizontal like in the bentley, it's always like one tooth off.
being one tooth off makes no difference, but i would think any more than that would make a difference if you care how your distributor faces.
purchase a good dizzy gear puller tool and have fun. it's way harder to get them out than get them in. and whatever you do, try not to hurt the brass gear inside....
lots of amazing information in the engine forum. i spent 3 hours reading about drive gears once... _________________ All your Buses are belong to us.

Thank you Ian but I paid someone to build this and he is coming over to fix it. No point in me doing something I shouldn't have to.
I guess I just need to flip the gear at the bottom of the distributor and call it good. _________________ 64 Type II

With all that putting in and pulling out of any distributor drive, make sure you don't drop a shim washer. I goo them with a daub of grease when going in. If one gets abandoned get it asap with a magnet. |

Pulled the gear out of the motor and flipped the gear on the distributor. The brass the gear in the case has 2-3 little nicks on the flat spot but all of the edges look fine. When you turn the motor over, there is no clicking or popping noises. I will just hope for the best! _________________ 64 Type II

Don't forget to check distributor drive end play when changing distributors. Lots of information in performance engine forum. Cast vs. aluminum |
