Hello, I am on vacation in Port Aux Choix, Newfoundland in Canada. I have a big leak of diesel on my my motor wich is a 1995 Jetta TD. It blows diesel between my fuel pump and the head of the motor. I am not a macanic and I need to find somebody able to repair my Westy around the place where I am. If anybody can help me to find the one who will be able to fix my problem, it would be very appreciate!

Tank you!

check out Montreal places as I don't think you are that far from there.
there is a place that rents VW campers in Montreal-Quebec area. If you pm me I can try to find it if you need it.

He's in Newfoundland, an 8 hour ferry trip and at least 12 hours of driving from Montreal. Essaie ces deux places.

I'm thinking any mechanic would be able to find the leak-it wouldn't be a strictly VW or diesel problem.

I agree - any mech may be able to help you. You might be able to fix it yourself as well. Sounds as if one of the threaded couplings on the pump which connects the pump to the metal fuel lines that go to each cylinder may have come loose. If that's where the leak is from. you may be able to simply tighten the coupling up

when you say it's blowing between the pump and the head are you referring to the space between the pump and engine (about a 3-4" space) or is it blowing out the front of the pump where the 4 hard fuel lines connect to the pump.

if it's out the front try tightening the fuel lines (17mm), but it could be you have a broken hard line. Try to wrap it with silicone rescue tape.

if it's coming out in that space between the head and the pump, you have a blown seal on your cold start. Not much will fix that on the road that I'm aware of.

Also check to make sure you have the timing plug in. It's in the front of the pump centered between the hard fuel lines.

Best of luck man!

Not to rub salt in the wound...but...he is about an 8 hr drive to the ferry alone. Then the 5-6 hr ferry, then another 18 hrs to Montreal. That's without adding "driving a Westy" time.

To the OP, I hope you have found one of the legendary friendly Newf's to help you out. There is no shortage of good karma on that island. I am hoping to hear that everything has worked out.

Bonne Chance!
Brian.

I am back on the road! Very Happy

A big thank you to Syncroluvr for your cue to J&L Repair. They refer me directly to Larry Larvsen (I hope I don't make mistakes in his name).

His head was into my motor 5 minutes after I called him this morning, and he did a great job. I will be able to test it tomorrow on the road. That guy saved me a 880 km towing ride to St. Johns!

Thanks all for all to informations you gave me! Wish me luck! Cool

Great News! Enjoy the rest of the trip! It's a beautiful place to visit but not such a great place to breakdown!

Stories like these justify my multiple daily checks for any updates...great site. Nice work Syncroluvr.

Brian.
