There is a small lever on the lower right of the shroud, behind the intake runner, and looks to have a cable attached to it at one time. I assume this helps cool the engine, so without being hooked to a cable, which way should the lever go for best cooling? What should this be hooked up to?

It connects via a cable to a valve on the air cleaner that controls if the engine gets cold air or warm air to the carb.

Do not mess with it because if it jams closed the thermostat will not open the flaps in the shroud and you can cook your engine.

Just use it as an indicator that the flaps are moving. Cold, lever points one way. Hot, lever points other way.

Lever leaning to the right means flaps are open and cooling the engine.
Lever more straight up means closed.

Thanks, it is leaning to the right so now i won't "test" which way works better, and just leave it alone.
