Hello all!
I am brand new here! This seemed the most appropriate forum to post this.
A little bit about me to start.
I am 17, and at this very moment (until saturday) I am driving a 2003 Ford Expedition that gets a gaud awful 10.6 miles per gallon. My actual vehicle is my 1997 Expedition but my parents bought new cars, therefor I got to drive their 03 one.
Anyways. Gas prices are KILLING me with it. So I went car browsing.
And found a dream car! A 1967 VW Beetle. You can read about it in my signature.
its got all new chrome, motor is fairly new, interior is completely redone. New paint. Dash was uglified I know, but the price is so good, Cant pass.
Saturday morning, I go pick it up. I asked my boyfriend if he wanted me to take him in it for prom saturday night. He is questioning my sanity!

My plans are to drive it!
Well.... in reality, I want to try and bring some original dash parts back into the car. Eventually. |

Welcome to the 67 club. Seems someone was going for the "Cal" look. Hopefully your dash is intact behind that billet mess. Nice looking ride. Have fun with it! _________________ 67 Type 1 : Driving Project born Sep 66

Nice find!!! I would have loved to be taken to prom in a Beetle. Instead my boyfriend borrowed my Dad's Cadillac. The one guy in high school that I went to homecoming had a 72 Monte Carlo which was pretty cool, he was super nice, unfortunately at that time I did not see it. Ahhhh the memories...
Enjoy your Beetle!! |

Nice clean ride, I like it. As for the engine chrome, you might want to replace that stuff with stock gear......eventually. |

Thanks again all.
Why might I want to replace the engine chrome? Just for originality sakes?
The steering wheel might not be original, but I am digging it! |

Some people believe that chrome tins make the engine run hotter. I had chrome tins and I scuffed them up real good and painted them black and changed my mind and painted them a nice high temp silver. Personally, I don't believe the chrome is hotter theory, I just did not like the chrome. Check out my photos on the link below. |

Very cool car!
Back in the 80's my '68 Calook had those billet panels. Loved those things. Does anyone still make them? I think the company that made them back in the day was called Billet Buddy. Is that right? _________________ rpm750

My father had a red 67 Baja bug with custom VDO gauges and a steering wheel that looked just like that in the 80's. He completely customized it and ruined it though, I'm talking making it into a street rod from a nice Baja. I miss that car. _________________ 67 Convertible July 67 Yukon Yellow

Chrome cylinder tin covers don't have the cooling air diverters in them. Unless some aftermaket manufacturer makes them that way now. Very important for proper head cooling with DP application. As Phil mentions, you need the hose that attaches to your oil filler neck, that is usually routed to the carb air filter. _________________ '66 Beetle

Thanks all!
Can someone help with part numbers or a place to locate the hose, and a proper cylinder cover?
Thanks! |

I seem to be missing something.
Look where the hose connects that my bugs missing. There is some silver cylinder piece on the bottom end of the hose that it goes into.

Fine lookin Machine. My first Bug was a black '67 sunroof I paid $200 for in '77 I sure wish I still had it. The part you're missing is the oil breather hose.Suppose to recycle unburned crankcase vapors I think. You have an aftermarket air cleaner.I can't tell from the photo but there might not be a hook-up to it. If there is all you need is a hose. |
