Excellent. That is exactly what I wanted to know. I have read some concerning things about Mahle and the aluminum center bearing, compared to the Silverline steel backed center bearing. I appreciate your help muchly. If I read between the lines, it sort of looks like Silverline is supplying Kolbenschmidt with their Mains these days....just re-packaged.
I will say though, that Gary Berg has a vested interest in this discussion as he is selling Silverlines by the truckload in our classifieds. _________________ *****************

| What caught my eye was the steel back, it has to be stronger than aluminum, unless the aluminum is a special alloy. If you have a set of original bearings that have seen many many miles, check them with a magnet to see if they are steel or aluminum. That should tell you what the little elves in the Black Forest preferred. That would be the road I would take. Peace. |

Thanks very much. The originals were Kolbenschmidt, and they were steel backed. Silverline it is. I am reading some bad press about the Mahle's, but it is probably mostly anecdotal.
I was in the Black Forest 4 years ago, and I didn't see one of those sneaky little elves......slippery buggers. _________________ *****************
