| The black strips on my 71 SB bumper are peeling off and look awful. Is there a specific tape I can get to replace it, or do people just use black electrical tape or something else? (Or are they supposed to be painted on?) |

I have done this on a couple of cars. Electrical tape imo is too stretchy and has poor adhesion over time.
3M makes a product called "ScotchCal" striping tape. 3/4 inch width. Pricey but you will have enought to do everybody's car you know. |

The PO of my car went the electrical tape route, and from my experience I totally support the notion that it's the WRONG way to go.
I'll check out the 3M product as addressing this has been on my list of to-do's for a while now.
Check in after you tackle it, and include before and after pics, I'd be interested in seeing how you make out. _________________ 1976 Volkswagen Beetle |

I had a similar question a year or two ago and was suggested to use electrical tape. I was very skeptical as I live in Reno where summers can get hot. I searched for a "pin stripe" material of the appropriate width and was unsuccessful.
So one day I figured, what the heck I'll try the tape, worse that can happen is I'm back to square one.
I clean off the bumper and applied the electrical tape. I'm happy to say the tape still looks good almost 18 months later, only issue was where I wrapped it around the back of the bumper at either end. If I had taken the time to clean the area properly, I'm certain it would have stuck, but I just trimmed the ends.
I would support the use of the electrical tape, and I use the cheapest I can find! _________________ 1969 Beetle (Just finished a complete pan off restoration, SWEET! Runs like I imagine a new Beetle would!)

Good quality electrical tape is all it needs.
The red stripes that were in my bumpers for about 6-7 years was just red electrical tape
You'll need to unbolt the bumpers from the car to do it right, nothing looks worse than when people run the tape over the top of the bumper bolts. |

| Thanks all. I'm planning to take the bumpers off to clean polish and repaint soon, hence my question. |
