I'm looking to go with some wider white walls on my 74. I know the purist say the thin white looks better, but I like the wide look. Anyone know of a decent source and size? My ghia is just a stock. The other question, I'm having the rims powder coated as well, they are currently grey with the vw hubcap. Was thinking of grey as they are or possibly black. Anyone have any photos?

IMO, wide whitewalls look cartoonish on late model ghias. They are more appropriate for 1950s and very early 1960s cars. However, if you must, try Diamond Back Tires or Coker Tire:

For radials, 165R15 or 155R15 would be stock replacement radial sizes.

Well the car is pretty cartoonish, so I'll find a set of white walls and will go back to my childhood of bugs bunny and tom and jerry!

To the normal joe bob a ghia with wide whites that is a 74 is no different from a 57 (just trying to give a new point of views on late ghias.)

True enough - regardless of the year, most people couldn't tell you what the model was, and the rest wouldn't believe you if you told them what the make was.

Okay, I can see wide whites working on a later model ghia if it's a matte black rat rod with red steel wheels. Something like this image I found, except on a '72-'74 ghia.

That's a deliberate attempt to back-date a ghia with 1950s street rod styling cues.

Yeah, that's the vintage look, mate paint 2 tone and such.. Reminds me of my 56 Chevy. Mine is Saturn yellow, shiny and quite cartoony.. I still think it would look cool, but your correct on the period thing. But again what the hell do I care? It my car and I dig white walls so that's what I'm gonna do!

Razz

I could use some new rubbers on my 73 ,and thinking the thin white walls might be the answer. my orange 73 vert could be be a cartoon star any way you look at it

Wow thanks everyone Cool It's Pebble Grey, its a 2013 Mercedes Benz GLK color.

And all the credit really goes to my body/paint guy. I just picked the color and he really did some magic on it.
