I'm going to say no... Some one well jump in and say yes they help keep the tin from getting as hot from the pre heaters being in direct contact with the tin.. If you are running all stock tin and pre heaters then why not put them in? _________________ 1302s sunroof..

I was going to say yes because without them you have two small breaches in the cooling system, but meh. They're cheap, why not put them in? |

The large piece of insulation nstalls into the other small piece of tin that wraps the front-side if the pre-heat pipe. One of the smaller half-round pieces fits into a slot in the tin in your picture, and the other into the smaller piece of tin (missing?). Together they firm a circle around the pre-heat pipe. |

I am having a tough time finding a pic to illustrate. I'll see if I can take one... |

Sorry for the blurry photos but hope these give you an idea. I have all the pieces but still need to look at the Bentley manual, or find another source to check exactly how that metal shim and the larger insulation fit together.

Thanks a lot for the clear info by the way. |
