Two bolts hold claps down right in front of it and then it has the fuel line on the bottom. _________________ 1964 Beetle

4 bolts 2 in front 2 in back hold it down. You need to pull vent line off at the cap and the fuel line under the tank and cap it from leaking. I clamp the soft line with vise grips and pop it off the hard line to the tunnel.
As far as cleaning it I've used kerosene and a chain successfully in the past (if you do this you need to pull the fuel sender out and make a plate to cover the hole while you shake it around so kerosene doesnt splash all over you.). Just put the kerosene and chain in the tank and shake around. Keep doing it until the kerosene comes out clear and it looks clean inside. There are actual cleaners you can buy too....it depends on how rusty or how gummed the inside of your tank is. _________________ Formerly known in the forums as "OVALTEEN"

If you're going to clean the tank Consider taking it to a radiator shop to have it done. Here's why:
A shop can determine if it is worth doing, Check for weak spots.
The process cleans both the inside and outside. Easier to paint.
You don't have to deal with the chemicals, or their disposal.
they can determine if it needs to be resealed ( chemically lined ). Bad Idea because of possible flaking.
Cost about $100.00. But if done right you won't have to deal with it again.
I'm on a budget but that was one thing I no longer have to worry about.

I used this on my '60, and it worked awesome. My tank was a good candidate for this, it did not have holes and was structurally sound. It's all in the the prep work, but I couldn't have been happier with the final results... http://www.por15.com/FUEL-TANK-REPAIR-KIT/productinfo/FTRK/ |
