I only have two, but the '70 for 37 years now, and the '71 for 33. So I've got a good average going, 35. Glenn's the original owner of his 74, so he's at 35 years. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. The '71 now has the 1835 engine, swapped from the '70. Second owner of each. 1988 Mazda B2200 truck, 1998 Frontier, 2004 Yukon, 2004 Frontier King Cab. All manual transmission except for the Yukon. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=335294 http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=335297 |

The '66 I borrowed part of the money from my parents but am paying them back. My dad payed for the first '73 bug. The rest on that list I payed for on my own. My dad has hauled them home and used his gas though. So that helps out. And he payed $10 for a dastback I had and $250 for two '67 bugs. But everything iv'e gotten in the last year has been bought with my money. Just so you know most of the cars on that list are parts cars and have only payed $500 at the most besides the '66.
I just don't spend my money on other crap _________________ '70 std bug (daily driver)

i can see it being completely possible. i'm 20, but had 7 VW's since i was 19. But there have been many more i could have had. i have been offered many cars over the years for free or really cheap. one guy offered me two for $100 (70's models) because they were at a house he was clearing, and they were there, another guy offered me one for free, cus he's had it for years and its just been sitting in his yard. one guy offered me four bugs for $50 (to cover the gas for him to bring them to me). and a few others i forgot about. if i took advantage of all those offers at the time i would prolly have over 25 VW's right now. but after a while i realized that whats the point in collecting all those VW's if was just gonna let them sit and rust away. so i passed on those offers.
but a few of them i couldn't pass up. the unknown rail, i got for free from a friend who live a mile away, and was gonna junk it. It was in really good shape, so i couldn't pass it up. he even brought it to me for free, even tho i tried to pay him, he wouldn't take it. The other was the 29 mercedes benz kit car on a 71 bug chassis. buddy of my dad had it lying around his house and let me have it. took me 15 mins to get it running. the last was the 69 baja. free CL find, it was an unfinished project. guy had it listed as a free body, but was basically the whole car. chassis was stripped and painted, body was stripped, just needs paint. the 61 baja i got for $125 at a yard sale. the rusty rail i got for $200, but came with a crap load of parts. _________________ 1974 Super Beetle: Custom resto in progress

I wish people would offer me free cars. I would have no place to keep them, of course. Unless I hauled them 140 miles away to my grandpa's farm, he has a few buildings. I'm 16 and slowly paying off my Beetle, since I have no job. _________________ My '72 Super

Hehe, I got a free car It was $50 but then after talking to the guy (not necessarily about the car, just VW stories and such) he said he enjoyed talking to me and I could have it for free! _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=366056 - My '73 Super Build. 2332cc, 16" Fuchs |

Been to a yard that some guy owned in Iowa with over 250. Too bad I was so type 3 centric at the time. I could have made some real finds, but I didn't know what to look for if it wasn't on a type 3. Oh well.
But that being said, the cars were rusted together horribly and it was hard to get out a single bolt or screw. Towards the end of the trip, my friend and his family, and I were sliding the top half of a 15 window bus over a forest of bays, jumping from car to car, and occasionally swinging on a vine through clouds of mosquitoes. Geez, what a crazy time. So daunting really. It was not VW heaven. It was VW hell!
Ownership is subjective. No one can win the title of most VWs really. I have one friend with about 15, but gosh... how many does Richard Kimbrough have? _________________
