We just bought 1960 Euro model sedan. VIN 2893514. Jan 1960 build. 3 fingered valance w/ small slit, 4 tab lid, H-valance. Correct verticle driver's door lock. Pan and body match. Engine is a later ('64/'65?) 40 hp 1200. Early hump gas tank and square shelf. Semaphores! Yes! Horn is rigged to cheap button. Need to fix that. Parts are not goin to be easy, I know.

Yeah, the car came with a few nifty gadgets. A swamp cooler, mirror/spot light combo, fuel switch extension, rack, convertible lid.
The car also came with a little rust, bondo, rats nest wiring, wrong engine, etc. lol, but its a keeper.
Brakes are first. It'll be driven like this for awhile util we're ready to play with the welder (and I sell the SB).
It's my son's baby, tho. |

Is that original paint? Is it L363 Arctic? You don't see too many '60s in that one year only color. Great find! |

Nah, its a cheap paint job. PO could have been trying to match Arctic White and possibly was originally but the paint on it now is crappy. Waiting for my certificate from the museum. |

That is an awesome car. Wish I had a fuel gauge on ours. Your pod is amazing and the RPM guage is perfect. Whats the color? OK never mind its Jade Green.
Also, did the Euros come with blade bumpers or did they have small overriders? _________________ Miami Palmtto Bugs |

Hi there,
I have an october 60 beryl green rag, all original....with these latches. They seem to be fitted to the vent windows from new. Is this a specific to that year? Or special for saxomat beetles?

This thread is incredibly helpful and a great point of reference even if you aren't restoring your 60/61, at least you can pinpoint differences between them and other models.
Here is my 1960 Jade Green sedan..Built in NOV '59 and believed to be bought new in Coos Bay, Oregon, but now resides in Arkansas
Correct steering wheel(broken horn ring though)
Correct hood(and 4-tab emblem)
3-finger front apron
H-pattern rear apron
OG ratty headliner(cloth)
OG door panels
OG floor pans(rust free!)
OG Sapphire radio
Working fuel reserve!
I just love this car, there's no feeling like having an unmolested 54 yr old VW.

Purchased A 1960 Beetle back in April of this year, its a pretty solid car but had been sitting since 94. It looked like at one point the seats may have been stolen out of the car because it had 66 seats both front and back and they didn't match. I did find some correct seats and had them rebuilt. Other than gutting the interior I have not done anything else except buy some used tires for it since the ones on the car were pretty rotted. I finally got around to see if the 36hp engine ran, it had the wrong carb on the engine but in the box of spare parts was a correct one and rebuilt it. It also had an aftermarket fuel pump, correct style but did not work so again in the parts box was a German one so I had Vintage Werks restore it. I had the fuel tank cleaned out, I cleaned out the hard fuel line and replaced all of hoses and also had to buy a new reservoir valve for the tank. Tune up and fresh oil, put a little oil down the spark plug holes and let sit overnight. hand turned the engine, no funny clunks so went for the start. Once the gas hit the carb it fired right up, blew out a bunch of white smoke, settled down and purred like a kitten. Amazing a car sat the long for no reason, I need to put in a clutch cable and see if the split case tranny is good. I will post some photo's next week. One more thing, zero rust in the pan and even the battery tray is good . Going to be a good restore project. |

This is my grandfather's Beetle. 1960 model 1959 Built Chassis 273xxxx Engine 338xxxxx
He bought it in 1969 and still uses it in a daily basis. Never restored!
Needs a engine refurbish because it has a massive oil leak. I hope it runs again in 2015.
Next week i'll order the certificate as a christmas gift. Yes, i know i'll receive it next to the summer |

I've found a 61 that might not be salvageable. What parts should I try to save?

The steering wheel is 60-61 only. 6-wire turn signal switch is also 60-61 only (however, 60 has screw on terminals and 61 has push on terminals). Gas tank without hole for fuel sender is 61 and 61-67 Standard only. Wiper switch. Kick panels beneath rear seat. If it's an early 61 with Hydrate Green steering column tube, gear shift, and e-brake lever, I'd grab those as well. |

Been on the look out for the perfect stock car to add to our family and last month we found it.
March '61
Vin: 3734XXX
Very well documented 102,000 miles
2 owner
Spent its whole life in the spokane, washington area until i bought it
Original paint
Complete original interior
At 25k miles the original 40hp had crank problems, has a 1300 in it now. Im in the process of rebuilding the original 40hp old speed style.
Plans are to just preserve and enjoy it.

That was a '60 model year only color, so it's most likely Ruby Red. |
