I really like the type 34 ghia it probably out preforms the type 1 ghia,it's to bad they didn't make A lot of them. When you find one parts aren't easy to come by and most of the parts aren't reproduced because of the low production numbers. |

I disagree on the Jeep Cherokees, that 4.0 inline 6 and automatic will run forever. I've owned two and they both had over 200K when I sold them and they were still running strong with no smoke or mechanical problems.
Now the AC unit and the power windows did have problems.
I still see my 95 Cherokee Country driving around town and have talked to the person who bought it and it has nearly 300K and still running good!!!
BTW I changed tranny oil every 50K and ran Mobil 1 synthetic and did oil changes every 5K _________________ 1968 Squareback

Mustang II by far.... its like a pinto with a mustachio - I had one when I was 16 - now I would rather walk.
Some things like the AMC's - Hornet, Gremlin, Pacer - are ugly - but kind of so bad they're good its like if snorkelstang came stock that way.
I had a Pacer, I put huge tires on it did smokey burnouts all the time, ran through sets of tires and couldn't kill the inline 6. Eventually the rear end went out, and it would still run, so you could play the radio (which was wired into a payphone handset...). Look at me defending the Pacer. Good car, pretty fugly. _________________ 1969 Ghia

Agreed. The power window switch has been about the only issue I've had with my '99 Cherokee Sport, other wise the vehicle has been a champ. I know many Cherokee owners that have run their Jeeps up to 300,000 to 400,000 miles without any engine work. _________________ 1970 Campmobile Click to view image

I had a similar experience with an Oldsmobile Intrigue...head gasket blew right after the warranty expired...maybe two weeks? Fixed it and it was okay for a while until random things started going wrong (door panel came off while pulling the door shut, misc plastic parts from the underside fell off, etc.)
GM in the 90's/00's are terrible vehicles. |

That Reliant would have had some major lawsuites here in the US. Also has anyone rode in a 2011 Focus ? We got one for a rental(long story) and it seems like Ford made it worse in some ways . I will say that it is nicer looking inside and out, but it is a lot less comfortable, the transmission seemed too rough for a new car, and it had a lot of road noise. |

The worst car I ever had was an Escort. Not sure what year it was, I think it was an '89 or a '90. Absolutely nothing on that car worked properly. For example, if you hit the brakes, the engine would rev up as if trying to thwart your efforts to stop. All of its problems probably could have been fixed but, why bother? It was so cheap, I just tossed it and got a different car when I finally got tired of the Escort's "personality". _________________ 1967 VW Beetle

I'm not particularly picking on American cars but some of the rentals over the years have been pretty dire.
This one is the Plymouth Arrow rented from a place in Flagstaff in 1977. To be fair it was a US version of a Mitsubishi Celeste:

Joe Dirt comes to mind..
My first car was a 1950 Chevrolet Fleetline DeLuxe.. Loved it.. awesome ride.. So Ive always been into the older cars.. When my daughter was born in 1993, I had to give up the old stuff and buy something that had factory seat belts.. Obviously (New Baby, Car Seat).. So! I ended up selling a 1951 Chevrolet 5 Window Pick-Up that I had, original with good patina.. for a measly $1200.. .. Anyways.. I ended up buying a.. almost embarrassed to say this.. a 1989 Hyundai Excel Hatchback.. Manual Shift.. I bought it, brought it home and my wife hated it.. LOL.. but we needed something with seatbelts.. It was a clean car, the PO took care of it.. but it was a Hyundai.. It lasted about 5 months.. My wife got stuck at the light once, cause she couldnt get it into first gear and kept stalling.. So an older fella rolled his window down and talked her through it so she can go.. She tells that story with great hate towards the car.. LOL.. Well like I said 5 months and I traded up! Traded it for a 1963 VW with left front quarter panel damage, and received $300.. My wife ended up getting a 1991 Toyota Camry..
