There's a button, right on the base bracket that the e-brake rests against when off (attached at the bottom of the dash panel), which is wired to the light on the dash. When depressed (brake handle released) the button is pushed, and the light is off. When the handle is pulled to set the e-brake, the button springs out, powering the dash light. I know, because I had to remove mine in order to install my new parcel tray. _________________ 1978 Sage Green Westfalia

Umm, with a wire?
1 wire from power (fuse box) to button, and 1 wire from button to dash light.

Hold on there, that's a recipe for smoke
The brake handle button grounds when you pull the brake, adding a live wire from the fuse box will end badly the first time you park, luckily the brake warning light has complex internal circuits to manage these things, the diagram in your Bentley or here in the Samba's technical section can give you all the wire colors and terminal numbers to do it right _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

| That depends on what year your bus is. But two seconds opening your bentley and you could answer your own question. If you don't have a bentley look up on any page while on this website and the dropdown menu under technical will have a wiring page. Your bus's diagram will be there, most likely in color. |

I took out my engine and transmission last weekend. What are some good things to do in the engine/tranny area while its all out?
I have already installed a second battery.
Any Ideas?
I already did a forurm search and did not find anything on the subject. _________________ 58' Beetle project

Right then can someone answer me this?
In the UK your vehicle has to have:-
1.) An MOT every year, which is an inspection carried out by an MOT station (basically a garage with a special licence & equipment) they check that the vehicle is in a safe & roadworthy condition, you have to do this every 12 mths. this costs around £40
2.) You have to tax the vehicle every year at a cost of £210 for a Bay window free for any vehicle built before Jan 1st 1973
3.) You have to insure the vehicle for 12mths this cost depends on your age, how many times you have claimed where you live, what you use the vehicle for & any motoring convictions you have.
If your vehicle is declared off the road you don't have to do any of these. but you have to:-
4.) Register the vehicle in your name, this is free if you have the registration certificate otherwise it costs £25.
The registration the vehicle is given as soon as it is registered in the UK stays on the vehicle for good.
How does it work in the USA?
1.) Do you have to MOT
2.) Do you have to tax?
3.) Do you have to insure?
4.) Do you have to register?
Does the vehicle registration No. stay on the vehicle for the life of the vehicle?
In the UK when you buy an old vehicle you can write to the DVLA (Driver Vehicle Licencing Agency) with a payment of £5 & they will tell you all of the address's of previous owners, you have to be the registered keeper of this vehicle to do this, can you do this in the USA? _________________ http://www.vintagevwweddings.co.uk/contact.html |

Is there anything special about the distributor shaft O ring, or is it just an O ring. I've never actually bought one before. _________________ Vehicle: 1975 Special order delivery walkthrough panel based pop-top camper (LCA / Sunliner). How does it work in the USA?
1.) Do you have to MOT?
most states require a state inspection. some don't (florida and oklahoma that i know of, i'm sure there are more).
2.) Do you have to tax? usually the tax is paid when you register the car.
3.) Do you have to insure? yes.
4.) Do you have to register? yes.
Does the vehicle registration No. stay on the vehicle for the life of the vehicle? no _________________ "E' meglio vivere un giorno da leone che cent'anni da pecora" |

In Pennsylvania laws are different for standard and antique tags, I have antique
1.) Do you have to MOT - exempt from emissions testing, muffler must not leak, must pass standard safety inspection at licensed garage
2.) Do you have to tax? - at time of purchase I had to pay 6% state tax + 2% City tax
3.) Do you have to insure? - fully insured as an antique, about 1/3 cost of standard policy about $600 per year
4.) Do you have to register? as an antique only once, standard would be yearly, antique registration is about double standard fee around $125
5) Does the vehicle registration No. stay on the vehicle for the life of the vehicle? - with antique tag it does, not with standard; previous owner information is strictly private in US, no way to find out
If you buy a vehicle in state, you must have seller's drivers license number in order to register, not required if out of state.
Antique vehicles must be essentially unaltered, you have to submit photos with application. A friend was denied tags on his Corvair, he had the wrong hubcaps. |
