well its been a long time.....
built another bug and sold it...
seems i can get together enough dough to get on with the bus resto, i have an appointment with the blaster this week Very Happy

since i wanted to see if it works, i made some of the outriggers this weekend. and i have a shipping notice from Bogota Cool

shipping from Gerson works pretty good i heard, but this is rediculous:
ordered on friday the 19th at 5.21 PM and attempted delivery was monday 22nd 2.15 PM (Bogota-Colombia to Vienna/Austria) Shocked

some areas got turned into a sieve, but most of it was solid

pinholes in front of the upper vents Sad

these are a bear to repair correctly

some holes in the left rear deck. i have some donormetal for this

unfortunatly there is some more work to do on the roof in front of the part i did allready

some cancer at the front, but i will be able to save the original inner panel

the roof wasnt done for the fear of damaging it, i will have to carefully sand it down

these arrived. never worked with them before...

Beautiful! I just read through the entire thread, what an amazing story. You mentioned that you are building a house at the same time. I'm doing the same, restoring an old house and it keeps me out of my garage. It keeps me poor too Very Happy

I've been without an air cooled VW for about three years and maybe unfortunately, I've been bitten by the Splitty Bug. I recall looking at them about 10 years ago and now realize that I could have saved a lot of money had I bought one back then. The prices!!!

Looking forward to your future posts and I hope you are enjoying the work.

there may be a connection to the panel: i think about putting a logo on the bus with a wine and olive oil theme. i still want to paint it PG/SG because these two colours closely match the front and back of an olive leaf.
on the bus: i have been walking around the bus trying to decide where to start. four main areas: the front, the cargo floor, the corners/rear and the roof. my main concern is getting the doorgaps even.
so first i got the cabin floor in temporary, many spotwelds to gring down to make it fit. i will put in both front doors next to get a idea where the lower a-pillars go, then see how the doglegs correspond with the doors. no pics to show just yet

wheelwell front tacked

i had some problems with the fit of the WW floor, the heater pipe seemed to be too far to the drivers side, but some tweaking made it fit. i put bolts through the holes for the shifter to get alignemet there, as well as where the wires go through in front of the steering column

next step was getting the doglegs ready
i had some low quality black pieces i aquired ages ago.

these were of the thinlip (later) type, so i drilled out the spotwelds to remove the outer skin

i will use the inner part with autocraft skins which look excellent. this way i can get around spending a lot of dough on WW or gerson doglegs

som more work done to the front crossember. very careful fitting is in order here. the bumpermounts are used to align it

the outer part will be spotwelded on after the fitting of the a-pillars

autocraft lower nose skin on for mock-up, it seems to fit fine!
