tried a search, and couldn't find this specific answer. I have an early (Dec 67) 68 coupe, that I assume is fairly stock. The gas tank has a wierd vent? connection to inner fender.
Thanks to Vince, I learned this is stock for early 68. Now I wonder if anyone can point to me original replacement for this nasty hose-clamp backyard-engineered redneck crap the PO installed here?
Is this involved somehow?

Chad,
We discussed this before but it can be confusing when
dealing with 1968 Ghia fuel tanks and the plumbing.
Now that I see your pic, the problem is you have a late
'68 tank with additional fitting near the oval filler neck.
But your Ghia is an early '68 with the pipe fitting on the right
inner fender wall.
The PO improvised a solution to that and all you can do at this
point is to tidy it up a bit and make it look better than it is now.
The correct tank for your Ghia would have a breather fitting
on the top surface @ the driver's front corner. The rubber grommet
in the link you posted is used there to seal the connection.
See #18 below, from the KGPR catalog.
Here is a pic I posted some time ago in the Samba Gallery when
I was searching for the early '68 plumbing:

ohhhhhh... I swear I hate these damn cars. So sny reason not to buy an original EARLY 68 gas tank and that part from catalog to replace the one I have? _________________ Use "to" for "give the wrench to me."

Come on now, don't be a hater.
We searched for the early version parts and it took
about a year to find it all for a '68 (early) coupe restore.
Since then the owner of that car has found another complete
tank with plumbing that he may be willing to sell.
Send me a PM if interested.
The drawback to the early version tank & plumbing is that it's
even more intrusive with the hard line crossing at the front of
the fuel tank. Any of the repro cardboard trunk liners will have
to be cut/nothed to allow clearance for their installation. You may
want to just keep what you've got and make some improvements
for a cleaner look. _________________ ****************************
