|
Hello everyone, normally I'm in the oval and split forums but now I am going to help my other brother with his 58 ghia convt. He has most of the parts for it and it has new floor pans and most of the metal work has been done. It is going to a friend who is going to finish body work and then I am going to paint it. My brother is going to make it a nice driver, not perfect so he can enjoy with his family. Color is going to be graphite silver with red interior and black top. Car will have stock running gear and a few accessories. 1st step, body going to shop and I will be stripping chassis to refinish. Will post pics as progress continues.

Hello everyone, it's been a while since I started this thread on my brother's 58 ghia convt. It's tough saving money for car, especially when you have 3 young kids but the time has come to start. We will be doing the car in different phases. First phase will be a rolling chassis. Powder coat pan, black oxide hardware, rebuild eng, trans, front end and brake system. I have an unstamped 36 hp case that will be used for it. Possibly installing a WW Okrasa kit also Will be posting pics as progress rolls along. |

Thanks Scott, I will be doing that. My knowledge is splits and ovals. I did work on a couple early low light convertibles where I used to work. I have a little bit knowledge on them but not as much as the other cars. I think the car you are building is going be awsome. You are a very talented person.

Hello everyone, it's been quite awhile since any progress has been made on convt. My brother has been doing some side jobs to get some more money to continue restoration. We took body off and I am going to strip pan and send out to get powder coated gloss black. Getting all hardware black zinc plated and a friend of ours is going to check the transmission and front end. I located a good running 58 motor that I am going to trade recasting a couple of vw steering wheels for. Car is going to have to wait to go to body shop as I have a 56 ghia and 52 splitwindow already there. Once those cars are finished, the convt will then go.

Slowly back on project as time and money permit. Got pan back from powder coater. It was done in gloss black, also picked up pedal assy from Scott at Pedal Werks. Will be picking up trans this weekend from rebuilder and will get axle tubes off to powder coater. More to follow.

Moving along slowly, got the transmission back from rebuilder. Also got back some parts from the powder coater. They were done in gloss black. Going to assembly rest of transmission and install rear spring plates soon.

Hello everyone, its been nine months since I have posted on my brother's 58 ghia convt. Not much progress on it. Have been working on assembling chassis very slowly. Transmission has been installed along with the front end. Working on brakes and running all lines/cables. Will post pics of chassis soon. I only have a couple of pics of painted beam and rebuilt spindles right now. Shell will be going to body shop in the next couple of months.

Worked on ghia pan and finished the front and and got it rolling, as I had to move it from were it was. Still need to finish rear brakes, m/cyl, lines and cables. But it is rolling on its own for first time in over 10 years since it was taken apart. Big accomplishment to get it this far.

Thank you Scott. I met you many years ago when I worked for a vw shop. I met you at a show in northern calfornia and you were very nice to me. You gave me the motivation to try and build the best I could after seeing the cars you built. To me they were some of the best I saw. I am glad you are continuing your ghia project, I have been watching it from the beginning. Hopefully these two ghias that I am building will come out very nice and I thank you for that. |
