Here's mine. At least the fronts anyway! They are 235/75R15 Goodyear Wranglers on BTR 15X5 wheels with 2.5 BS. It has a 6 inch wider beam with Fox 2.0 coilovers and rack & pinion steering. The rears are going to be 31-10.5's on BTR 15X7 wheels.

Just put these on. BF Goodrich All Terrain TA/KOs. 235/75 in front and 31x10.5 in the back. Steel spoke wheels with reverse offset. Front tires don't rub. I get full turn left and right withoutthe tires hitting the car.

I'm putting the parts together for a budget baja build and one of the items in question is wheels. I have a set of Riviera wheels (the modern style with the flat pad on the spokes, not the rounded spoke vintage type) but read on a porsche 914 website that these wheels are just street cruiser wheels and not intended for anything more demanding than running to the burger joint.
My intention is to make a dual purpose car. Beyond some street driving for fun, I'd like to run the dunes in Michigan and around the midwest. I have no interest in rock crawling so I won't be too hard on them relative to side-load. I'm not particularly smitten by these wheels but I already own them, they are aluminum and I'm on a budget.
Anyone got experience with Rivieras offroad? _________________ boost = displacement |

Running these Padla Trak "stagger cut" for 36 years in the sand on our Manx. They are 16.50-15 mounted on 18" rims. We run a 1835cc with a very low end cam which gives us a very strong and responsive first gear and with this size tire that is what you need for good all-around performance in the dunes.
What I have learned in all our years and different sand tires is wider is better as it gives you more floatation and bite in the sand. But you have to match the power and weight of your Baja or buggy to the tire as you can easily overmatch them with too wide of sand tire.

What did you do to prevent the fenders from digging into the top of the tire when the suspension compresses?
I have a 64 dune buggy with chrome coil overs on the back. Other than that the suspension is stock. I tried running a set of 29x15x15 goodyear terra's on a 15x15 rim this past weekend in the sand. If I was really delicate it was ok, but if I hit a dip hard the suspension would compress enough to make the fender lip hit the top of the tire. Whats the easiest way to solve this problem? |

They are Diggers in the rear. The front's are a tractor tire pretty much, but a lot of guys race on them.

hey quick question, whats the go with coilovers?
it would be stupid to run them with torsion bars as the coilovers will have much the same effect.
So do people take there torsion bars out? if so how does everythig stay together?
im taking about rear irs and balljoint front btw. in the rear could you do away with the springplate and torsion bars all together? and just run good trailing arms and coilovers to hold the weight, with limiting straps and bumpstops?
sorry if this has already been covered.. |

215/65/15 fronts and 275/60/15 rears on chevy cragar 8"x 5lug 4-3/4 on 1" adapters, doesn't seem to stick out to far and has the stance I was looking for on a daily street driven baja buggy with stock suspension. Plenty more to do yet, hoping to have her ride ready by spring.

Here's my contribution from the UK...
195R15 Colway MT fronts on 4" CMS rims with a-arm.com suspension.
31x10.5R15 Maxxis MT rears on 6" CMS rims with Eagle Performance 3x3 arms & coil-over conversion kit in the photos but rear tyres are now 33x10.5R15 BFG MTs.
3" lift on the body to give tyre clearance on the arches through the full range of suspension movement.
Fox 2.5 remote reservoir coil-overs all round. Not sure about the suspension travel but hope for about 10-12" at both ends |
Love your buggy. Mid travel buggies get me going. Too bad steering wheel is on the wrong side. |
