I did some homework on getting some accessories for camping and I bought some cool items like table, lantern, cooking stuff, BBQ grill and really cool head lamps. I'll try to post some pictures later.
If you have some cool camping accessories please share. |

I got an air cooled westy one time and after I got it home I found tons of cool camping stuff. The whole rear cabinet was full of high end backpacking equipment. I gave some Of it away and kept some of it. One of the things I kept was a dual fuel coleman lantern. Very handy as it runs off unleaded.
One of my recent favorites is a Cobb grill. Fairly compact and it will cook for hours on 4-5 pieces of charcoal. Stows nicely in the westy and it will cook anything that will fit in it. _________________ 89 Bostig powered syncro westy |

I have one of these: http://www.rei.com/product/812360/rei-camp-mini-kitchen
Fits nice behind the passenger seat in my weekender, and it stocked with all my camping kitchen supplies + stove/gas. _________________ 91 Vanagon Multivan |

I bought a Kelty kitchen a few years ago. It is almost the exact unit as mentioned above (REI). They fold up to a small package, and take just 90 seconds to put together. It makes my weekender much more functional, and cooking and storing your kitchen stuff works well.
I also use "cubes" with that unit. I am using the generic term because there are a few that work, and the point is to use a storage piece that you can simply swap from one area to another. Some people use the Kelty Binto cube things, some use Mountainsmith, and some use generic army surplus types.
For instance, I store my cooking equipment in a cube, in a storage bag. I have my entire mess kit in another cube, which stuffs in the same storage bag while traveling in the van (Mountainsmith 3 cube carrier). I keep my first aid jump kit in a 3rd cube. When I get to camp, I transfer all of them to the kitchen area (in the bag). Those kitchens are built to fit those cubes in multiple places, under the cooking surface, and in the bottom closed shelf area, (upright in both places).
As a sidenote, there are different cubes for different things. There is a great cooler, a dog cube, fishing. They really work well for standardizing things. Oh, I also have one for toys like frisbees and baseball stuff. You can also have your kids pack their stuff into them, which forces everything into a tidy transportation arrangment.
I also have a hamok from Uraguay. It is one of the finest camping accessories I have. It folds up into a 10" ball, and folds out to comfortably host 2 people in the most amazing way. You just fasten one end to the van, and the other to an adjacent...anything!
The irony is that dude in not laying in it right. It is waaaay nicer if you lay perpindicular. _________________ On a mission, the destination is just an excuse.

For me, I keep my camping extras fairly simple... maybe not as simple as machete and condoms. I have two Coleman chairs with little side tables for star gazing; a Mexican blanket for napping under the sun, stars and moon; a 12 bottle wine cellar built into the closet for rehydration purposes. The main thing in a camping situation for me is loads of books, colored pencils, camera/video stuff, laptop for editing... I run led lights at night... I bring a grill (just the metal grill part) to improvise a stone grill. Pretty much how I camp is how I live - not much difference. I eat the same way, drink the same way, play with Beaumont the same... I stopped carrying a table as I rarely used it. The coleman chairs with side tables made life simpler! _________________ WIT WA DA DA (Peace and Unity)

Regarding these mountainsmith cubes...The cubes are great, and I keep ordering extras. But I rarely used the gray carrying case...until discovered it makes an EXCELLENT fire wood hauler. Perfect size for a night or two of firewood.

For a while, my quest was every gadget that I saw. (Usually on the samba)
I have: bus depot rear hatch tent, porta potty, pop up shower room, shower bag, extra water jugs, little buddy, folding chairs and table, Cobb grill, memory foam topper, lynx levelers, sleeping bags (light and heavy), battery pack, folding shovel and ac to hang in the window. These are things in the storage shed. On or in my van is all the pots pans cutlery and dishes, cutting boards, towels and rags, and the A&E awning.
In reality I usually take folding chairs, Cobb grill, porta pot and heater in the winter. Appropriate sleeping gear, food. On longer adventures, the battery pack, extra water, lynx Legos.
What I really use? Windshield cover, rear screen, food and bedding. |

Here's a picture of the carrying case with wood in it. I'm telling you, this thing was meant for firewood.
