A friend showed me this dune buggy pickup recently. It does not match any pickups in the DBA or others seen here...Any ideas on the maker and value?
He has a 1962 title, and it is fairly complete. Round taillights are dated 1966.
Thank you experts for your help! |

No ID under hood removal or on body, Hood is separate from body a PITA to remove, I had to remove it as there was no fuel gauge installed (who does that?) in the tank, no more dipstick for me, lol
I have a 1964-7 swing axle transmission and did the internal grind mod to be able to fit a 200mm flywheel that i attached to the 1970 motor, other motor is 1973-74 and had the 180mm flywheel on it from the transmission.
I was not going to swap the 180mm flywheel as the motor produced more hp,
The info came from a Porsche 914 engine builder/racer (Black Forest Racing, Denver NC)Very patient and a very helpful guy.
If i do the later model independent axles (not a swing axle) I can move onto a 5 speed Porsche transmission. So that means the transmissions i have (1 Was just recently re-built) I will probably sell. This is a no rush project for me.
I really want to have a tube chassis with the roll cage similar to the new myers dual buggy before going on the road..but i have no ID or specs to fit a "ready Made chassis". Custom might be the way to go.. i would prefer the side rails be on the outside of the body and the roll bar to be Inside but Bolted to the outside Side rails.
Fitting the body on a fully welded chassis might pose another problem..so many type out there very hard to choose a correct application..it looks like 100" or 110" wheel base might fit..I will have to measure it eventually..
I made a general drawing of the front as the pic i had got lost and it is not local to where i am (YET) lol
it can fit 2 adults comfortably in the back, or 3 kids..
yes my drawing of the front (below pic , but better than nothing

|
|
Ok... so I am trying this again before I start my own thread. I'd like to find out why type of Manx clone I have and, better yet, get some history of the maker.
What I've got ID wise:
Flat Fenders
Fiberglass dash molded with the hood
Single Hood ridge
Inset to mount front plate below the "bumper"
The dash looks like it used to be 100% fiber and the aluminium added later. It also looks like there used to be a squarish hole on the passenger side that has been patched.
The tail box has been cut out by someone, so no help there.
According to the Dune Buggy Archives this can only be a "Dune Duster Mark I" but that isn't right.
Here a a few photos. Many more in my gallery:
Thoughts? |

I found a frame that I wanted and it came with this body and top.
Now I pretty much have two projects but I think I might build this one fast to have something to drive. And take my time on the other one. |

The rib on the hood and the rear which looks like it had the small square license mount (that has since been cut out) both say early Rascal. It had a dash of some kind which is gone now so it could have been any kind. |

Here is the dash that came with it. It doesn't have a bracket to mount to the body. It only has a home-made bracket fiberglassed into the dash.
(my wife is a good helper.)

Picked this up today, Manx clone of some sort. I looked through the archives and haven't found anything distinguishing about it.
Goofy taillight placement:
Has two raised ridges in roof:
Lace pattern painted on lower part of body:

Is this a Bandito? I looked on the DBA and it seems to be the closest thing.
Any help would be great. My buddy wants to sell it, but we want to know more about it so we sell it for the right price.

Rescued this from the woods here in Michigan. The plate on it has registration tags from 1976. Haven't been able to identify it on DBA. Another add to the x-files.

That is a Rattler. B & N Fiberglass out of Springfield Ohio manufactured them. Very high quality body. _________________ Bad News Racing 2018 NORRA 1000 3rd in Class

Very cool. Thanks for the help. The pic in DBA threw me off with the paint and wing but it is definitely a rattler. This deserves to be back on the road......after I finish my rail. _________________ 1975 Baja Bug

One of the unique things that B&N Fiberglass did was to make their own seats. Nothing new about that, but, they made the backs of the fiberglass bucket seats in matching gell coat so once covered, the back was "pretty" too and matched the body.
The body's will take a really wide tire. The only original color I have seen is this kind of Turquoise. _________________ Bad News Racing 2018 NORRA 1000 3rd in Class
