The new and long anticipated Porsche flat 4 has just been unveiled in the facelifted Boxster - which will now be referred to as a 718. There are two versions of this engine. Both are turbocharged direct injection engines with some very healthy power outputs.

The base engine:

2.0 liters
295 hp
258 lb/ft of torque

The S engine:

2.4 liters
355hp
295 lb/ft of torque

I've been excited about these modern day German flat 4s since hearing the first rumors about them 6 years ago. I want to install one in my Vanagon along with a 7 speed manual 991 transmission at some point. The ultimate power train for the ultimate utility vehicle.

Here's a a good Autocar article from a winter ride in the new cars.http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/2016-porsche-718-boxster-first-ride

What do you all think?
