Going to need pans, some RHD headlights, RHD interior rearview mirror, rear glass, taillights and I want to get a matching pear-shaped driver's side exterior rearview. Plan to get a ragtop grafted into it also.
Car is pretty solid otherwise. Was undercoated and rustproofed. There are holes where the rustproofing was sprayed into the channels and then plugged.

Anyone with links to Japanese, UK and Australian sites??

Unless you are going to be driving on the right side of the road you don't want RHD headlights.

Good thought! Hadn't considered that, thanks.

Where were the Japanese Beetles built? Are they shipped from Germany or did the come from Australia?

i can't say where it came from but that beetle wasn't made in australia.
we kept the small pre 65 sized windows until the end of the 67 model. we also kept a lot of other older features until then.

this is the australian site with the highest traffic.

Thanks Henry. I would have loved a small window car, but this will do just fine! Cool

What makes you think this is a japanese beetle? I have a 59 japanese LHD bug and the third vin is located to the right of the fan shroud on the firewall.

Unfortunately, the third VIN plate is not present...Did ALL Japanese import models have them?
I need to send off for the birth certificate I suppose.

as far as I know thay did but it wasn't attached very well. Just screws and only through the tar bord. Not the steel fire wall. I've seen the third vin on a couple 67's if you get the birth certificate i'd like to see it. I haven't got mine yet.

I've got some questions.

Why does the hood have the slots in them? Sounds like a weird idea if you have to drive in the rain.

What's different about right hand drive headlights? Thanks

The louvers in the hood are custom. And it does let water in. Just a styling thing, sorta old school hot rod.

The RHD headlights point to the left, while LHD headlights ppoint to the right.

The tar board is not present in the engine compartment. That's too bad. Crying or Very sad
I'll send off for the birth certificate soon....
