You dont need to chrome the headlights. Just buy new. They will be cheaper.
If you still want to chrome them or anything else, We use Kerr West in AZ. Mike does great work. |
generally headlights available on the market today are very low quality made.
chrome and details are not duarable and nice to see.
.
and then, even worst, they have uncorrect shape. i have seen much that are too long in the rear curve, like citroen 2cv effect.
if i were in roger i would keep the old ones, with a good rechroming, that certainly will be better.
headlights look makes the difference in a buggy
while you are taking to chrome head lights you could do the same for license light and base of rear lights.
did you decide the colour? _________________ http://beachwheels.blogspot.com/ FIRST SPACE ON THE NET ONLY FOR VINTAGE BUGGIES AS THEY BUILT THEM IN THEIR GLORY DAYS, LOT OF PICS, MOVIES, TECHNICAL TIPS

Side pod on Imp during a broad side accident... Priceless! |
kustoms, i take yours as example, but i saw a lot of thoughts about safety in this post.
i honestly think that dune buggy will never be a safe car.
may be the best safe solution is not to wear your belt an be far as possible from the car wrecking, firing, going on the roof...
i think if safety is your priority, dune buggy is not your car.
i believe first of all in safety that is in your eyes, in your feet, in your head.
the first way not to be injuried is to avoid an accident. _________________ http://beachwheels.blogspot.com/ FIRST SPACE ON THE NET ONLY FOR VINTAGE BUGGIES AS THEY BUILT THEM IN THEIR GLORY DAYS, LOT OF PICS, MOVIES, TECHNICAL TIPS |

I'm not a side pod sort of guy and I assume they came out on the later series, not the 1968 style. My distributor is 0231129010 with no vacuum advance. Is that you you mean by a 10 distributor? My ignition came today and looks great for the buggy. The other day,I put new VDO guts in my Empi tach and it looks completely original.Would still like a good bezel for it,though.I need to send the headlights to a chromer. Please recommend one. |

The Imp will be gold as was the original.I'll get the headlights done at AAA in Sacremento. My goal is to keep it as original as possible without aftermarket stuff. This is not for everyone and thanks be to God,I'm finally at a place in life to afford it.Buggies are especially given to modification but this one will go back to historically correct. Here's my ignition:
and here's my Empi filter:

You mount it above or on top of the engine and run breather hoses up to it; One hose from each valve cover(after they're drilled and tapped for hose fittings) and another from the breather tube next to the oil filler.

if you run a stock engine you don't need the breather. it only ruin the cleaness of the wiew _________________ http://beachwheels.blogspot.com/ FIRST SPACE ON THE NET ONLY FOR VINTAGE BUGGIES AS THEY BUILT THEM IN THEIR GLORY DAYS, LOT OF PICS, MOVIES, TECHNICAL TIPS |

I partially agree. You will still need a breather, but the stock configuration on a stock engine is plenty. _________________ Bad News Racing 2018 NORRA 1000 3rd in Class

I've got Emp Gt original covers but have never used them. They have a place to breath and I thought these would be good for that.I'm looking for the rear Empi USA frame for my Imp so let me know--I know they are high.If all goes well,I plan to retire soon and will mess with this and my countless other stuff.I really do appreciate all the help on this site.I don't get out much and need a lot of info.Special thanks to Bl3 and bobfa. They seem to think the way I do about this buggy. |

EMPI still sell a rear plate surround that would look OK (front ones had the EMPI globe at the top to stop it catching the pavement).

Thanks Manxdavid,I only want the real deal but have seen the remade ones. Here's my front one so I still need the rear one. Also, looking for other Empi stuff, like pedal covers with 3 rubber bars. The new ones have 4 bars on the clutch and brake pedal covers.

Nuts,I forgot to show the dietz light buckets I got here on thesamba. They've been chromed and the lettering is still crisp enough.I think they were $60 for the pair and I was happy to get them.I'll still get mine chromed later. The remake rims match them nicely,so I'll go with that.

Thanks for the interest.I've gathered more stuff for the Imp.Including the other license frame, correct front Empi sway bar,and NOS nuts for the Sprints. My life right now is busy with a new rental house for a gal who has 3 little girls. We have been helping her for a few years now and need to fix the house up(It's across the street). Bugging me now and again will help get it back on the front burner. Thanks,Roger in Joplin,MO |

I'd like to hear how you are doing on reproducing the front turn signals. Last update I believe you had an original as a sample and were having some made.
BTW, did you notice the running lights on the fenders of the orange Subaru Cheezeburger?
