|
|
Is it possible / has anyone seen the insulating material inside a air cooled heat exchanger melt? I have this terrible plastic/ chemical melting smell. When I looked under the bus it looks like soldier has came out of the weep hole on the left heat exchanger and dripped back on to the exhaust. _________________ If it's not broke it must not be a VW |

Is the blower hooked up to the alternator? If it is, is the air flow blocked or restricted? _________________ "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." - Benjamin Franklin |

the air tube from alternator to the left side heat exchanger was off. It is back on now.. It really looks like the heat exchanger was melting... NOT GOOD.... _________________ If it's not broke it must not be a VW |

Mine were melted by the previous owner, the ducting forward of the heat exchangers was clogged. |

Yes it seems as if it has puddled in the bottom and had dripped out the weep hole. It looks like aluminum has a melting point of 1200 f.. I'm afraid I have engine damage now. This must be made of cheaper stuff than the one in say a 1972.. kinda crappy. time to do a leek down test. _________________ If it's not broke it must not be a VW |

Maybe they are not made of exactly aluminum I can''t see it really getting to 1200F _________________ If it's not broke it must not be a VW |
