Is it possible / has anyone seen the insulating material inside a air cooled heat exchanger melt? I have this terrible plastic/ chemical melting smell. When I looked under the bus it looks like soldier has came out of the weep hole on the left heat exchanger and dripped back on to the exhaust.

Is the blower hooked up to the alternator? If it is, is the air flow blocked or restricted?

the air tube from alternator to the left side heat exchanger was off. It is back on now.. It really looks like the heat exchanger was melting... NOT GOOD....

Mine were melted by the previous owner, the ducting forward of the heat exchangers was clogged.

Yes it seems as if it has puddled in the bottom and had dripped out the weep hole. It looks like aluminum has a melting point of 1200 f.. I'm afraid I have engine damage now. This must be made of cheaper stuff than the one in say a 1972.. kinda crappy. time to do a leek down test.
