I only have photos to go from, the current owner does not know. It's a 1971 model, she says....
Spare tire lays flat in supers... well, I can't tell if it's laying flat under the carpeting... or if it's simply not there in the photo --
Windsheild is likely curved - though my research says they didn't start with the curved windshield until 73 ... I can't 100% tell from this photo, though it looks curved...maybe?
Look for struts... well, you saw the photo of the trunk. I've got this that is the best view of the front wheel well.. I can't identify springs.. but I can't NOT identify springs either.
Dual-port or different engine? She claims it might be different than stock engine... but still, does this lend an clues?
I'm sure someone is going to yell at me for not getting it right instantly, but I'm new... Can anyone tell me?

Trunk doesn't look like my super. I don't see the strut mounts up top....

Also looks like a std. beetle as you almost can see the lower torsion housing in the stand away photo. You want a Super? _________________ Werksberg Products....Products that work!

Definitely a standard. No strut towers in the trunk = standard.
I like the color though... for no particular reason. _________________ '71 Super Beetle |

It's a standard; a Super would have a row of vent slots on the front apron (below the bumper), and would be visible in your photo above. And I can see part of the front beam in the above photo.
A Super with a curved windshield does NOT have the type of dash shown in your photos, and those Supers are 1973-on. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. Why? I admit I like my supers, but I wouldn't pass up a nice one like that. _________________ 1972 1302

Don't know for sure. Depends where you are. Back east prices are higher. Out west they're a little lower.
If it runs well, drives well, and has little to no rust I'd offer maybe 2k and see what happens.
Not a huge fan of the yellow engine tin, but that can be changed easily. _________________ Current - 77 MGB, 86 BMW e30 325es, 07 Rabbit (Wife's car).

2k? Wow. I need to move!
I'm in MN ... This goes for 4k. Most 2k cars are pre-restoration around here. |

Thanks. Now I have something else to show my friend that thinks 2k is too much for an old bug.
Assuming it looks as good underneath as it does up top and runs as good as it looks, I wouldn't mind paying closer to 4k for it up in the rust belt.
Down here though clean body cars are pretty easy to come by. Its just the rubber bits that go to hell.
There's a nice 71 near me with new rubber and rust free going for 2k. If I had cash I'd buy it up in a heartbeat. Only issues are turn signals don't work, and it doesn't idle when cold until you drive it around the block. Big whoop, right? _________________ Current - 77 MGB, 86 BMW e30 325es, 07 Rabbit (Wife's car).

Its worth the 4k she is asking.... Did you get a list of everything she did to this car? I am willing to bet she has 6k in receipts. I inquired about the car about two weeks ago and only heard back about it this morning. I already purchased a 1969 from California last week, or I would have driven up today to buy this one (only about 3 hours).
Growing up in Florida, these cars were readily available pretty much everywhere.....Not so much up here in the North.
Good luck either way, I don't think a single inch of that car was untouched based on her pictures and description. would be a nice summer driver, no doubt. |
