just bought a 79 beetle vert that needs an engine . Rather than spend 3-4 grand buying something ready to drop in,I have a 1500 single port that came with another bug,and is just taking up space on my garage floor. Would it be reasonable to do a rebuild and drop that in the 79 untill I can scape up the cash for something with a lttle more poop?will the engine tins fit? will cooling be a problem? thanks. _________________ 67 bug

It will fit but the cylinder tins on a FI engine are wider so you'll have to fabricate some filler panels to close off the wider engine bay. _________________ Glenn

You'll also have to wire up a regulator for the generator on the 1500 and remove the ring on the pressure plate so it matches the later throwout bearing. _________________ Glenn

You'll also need to plug one of the fuel lines [no return needed with the 1500], remove the fuel pump under the tank and I'm not 100% sure but you might not be able to hook up the heater boxes the FI motor have a different set-up.
If you are planning on rebuilding the 1500, why don't you just rebuild the FI motor?

thanks for the replies. can't rebuild the FI engine as I don't have one.(no engine...gone...empty....long boring story)...Car will be registered in Ohio ...no emissions testing... , : o ) _________________ 67 bug
