I canceled my BAD brakes order after waiting three weeks and NOT receiving shipment notification. I bought this kit from Old Speed, instead. It was slightly more, but parts were IN STOCK and the kit uses a 944 vented front rotor. The 5 x 205 kit is $1610 w/ master cylinder, bearings, races, braided stainless lines, 4-piston calipers, pads, brackets, & hardware.
Apologies for the poor quality photos.

It's an original front beam on '58 single cab. According to Old Speed (Russ), the kit does not change track width. I'm running 15" stock wheels. 14's may not clear. |

Another thing worth mentioning, the master cylinder has a removable residual pressure valve. So when I have budget to do the rear disk upgrade, I don't need to replace the master cylinder again, I simply remove the res. pressure valve. |

Well, I cannot wait more than 3 weeks for mine. Pete @ Airkewld said 3 weeks max to my door, maybe sooner. While I am waiting for them, I will

Thanks. Can you share driving impressions when you get that far? I like this kit but it's gotta work awesome to justify the price to me. Looks slick in the pics. |

Sure! I'm already extremely happy with the dramatic improvement in braking with just the front kit installed. Pedal feel is firm, and braking response is consistent. Right now, I'm happy to stop adjusting front brakes!
Personally, I dropped the extra money for Old Speed's kit b/c of the vented rotors. I'm building my engine for more torque and horsepower, so I want as much brake as I can find. |

Thanks didn't realize this was a bus already on the road. Glad to hear you are satisfied. Is their website oldspeed.com? I don't see that kit listed, site looks a little dated... |

That's their site. "Dated" is a nice word for it. I told Russ I'd hire him a web designer to help get word of his kit out. So, his shop is quite successful and he prefers to work with his buyers to build the best solution for each buyer. So far, that means working with him over the phone. Call after 11:30 Pacific and he'll help you out. |

Russ is also always reasonably responsive to email and PMs, too, fwiw.
He builds a 14" version of the 944 front kit (using a turned down front rotor) for those interested at a similar price - http://www.kustomcoachwerks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=162355&highlight=#162355
+1 for someone else who wishes he'd get some product pages for the goodies he sells! |

The baby stangs w/ wide 5 and a MC was $1240 cbperformance stainless lines are $40 so $1280
For $330 more you get old speed, 944 rotors, and Porsche pattern if u ever want to go that route.
Still waiting on my babystangs. I ordered them barely a week ago. And I'm not in a desperate rush. My brakes still all work. Just been having too many people pulling out in front of me and I'm having a slight pull, needs another adjustment. _________________ Why don't you have a narrowed beam yet?

I talked to Nate about babystangs, and he's not yet offering a kit that fits pre-63 spindles.

If I'm not mistaken, Old Speed's 5x130 kit is priced considerably lower than their 5x205 kit. |

I did a conversion some years ago using the 912 single rotor and the 944 non turbo hub with a spacer on before the first bearing. This gave me a bit of a mounting bracket space plus if you used no spacer the jam nut and bearing wouldn't fit.
I used 72> bus/van caliper on this conversion because of availability/sourcing etc.
Can anyone tell me if there is an upgrade to this caliper from Wilwood possibly? _________________ My '65-Subaru EJ20 Turbo conversion |
