I could do a LHD but someone would have to send me a really good original dash to produce the mould from. Some imperfections are ok as we can temporarily or properly fix any problems but the new replicas can only be as good as the originals were when moulded from.
As described earlier due to the silicone face moulding process it will reproduce every detail of the original. I do not create the grained finish with any new type material like the ABS plastic dashes or wrapping fabrics or spraying any coatings. The mould face is a direct moulding of the originals surface, every grain, crack or scratch.
What is so bad with the current available LHD dashes I see around (not the plastic one from SA) but the padded ones? _________________ John

They're a copy of the late (71 on) dash, which is incorrect for the 70 and earlier cars. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

The wrap dash (65 and earlier) is NLA...I'd guess there are quite a few people who'd buy an early wrap dash from you if you made one. I'm one of them. I'd buy two, in fact. |

Well I need a dash.
I am on the wrong side of the globe to even find or see one, there are very few (none) LHD cars here in Australia let alone one with good dash to borrow! You guys need to search and find one for me if you want it to happen.
Rest easy that the silicone process is very gentle and will do no harm to the dash. Nothing sticks to it, this is the kind of silicone that people use for body moulding etc so it's very safe and harmless on human skin.
I would not have risked my own good genuine dash if this were moulded with fibreglass but the silicone means no fibreglass even touches the dash. _________________ John

I had found a good original '71 dash for my car, but if there was a new-material version that looked 100% like the original I would go for it as well. The day will come, my dash will crack. Originals are great but 40 year old plastic will just not last forever. It is such a contributor to the look of the car.
This looks like the closest yet to originals.

The problem is that anyone with a perfect early wrap dash isn't going to risk shipping it halfway around the world, having it used as a mold and then shipped back. The risk is very high and any damage is permanent with very little chance to find another perfect dash.
How often does anyone see a perfect wrap dash for sale? Once a year on average? So you buy insurance on the shipment, it gets damaged in transit and now you have money but no dash to buy...
I wish this wasn't the case - the lack of volunteers proves the point.

with no risk there is no reward... I feel like even a non wrap around dash would be a huge upgrade from the crap thats currently available in the type 3 world _________________ My 65' Notchback Build

Therein lies the imbalance, however, as the person taking on all the risk reaps no reward-especially if their perfect dash is damaged in transit.
Someone will eventually step up with a dash - wrap or not - and these will get made.
If I had a non wrap dash, I'd risk sending it to have a mold made. I wouldn't do it for a wrap dash, however. Too much risk. |

I already do one, all you need to do is slap that grill part on top on this dash over the speaker holes. I think that will appear identical. _________________ John
