Car is finally buffed, chassis is finished, brakes woks, RLR mid mount 1" welded in. Putting in windows & trim now ( PAIN IN THE ASS) but we got the passenger side finished. I figure I'll have a body BBQ to get enough hands to place the body on the pan in a week or two lol

Paint looks stellar! Looks like it has some real depth, nice work by your paint guy. Can't wait to see it on the pan... |
Yes I think this might be his best work yet. He was very motivated to make sure I got what I asked for and he delivered. Thanks! _________________ Virgin Islands Nice!

Thanks Guys!
So I have never installed a rag top before, and just my luck my rag top is the one with square corners in the back and no one else on islands has one or ever installed on like it. Well my boy and I tackled it and I think it came out pretty nice.
Some small details

Looking good! Does the rag always have this situation on the corners? Can it be bent down slightly to follow the curve of the roof?

I noticed that too, it basically comes in a straight piece of metal, when I take it off to put in the head liner im going to put it in a vice and try to curve the corvers. _________________ Virgin Islands Nice!

Looks like the one you have is 1" aluminum bar stock & the corners of the tensioner should be angled on the ends too...
When I did mine my original bow nearly exactly matched the contour of the roof when just laying in place without screws. I could see where aluminum might twist from the pressure on it when drawn tight possibly... Also mine is steel, might want to use Steel instead of Aluminum. Are all of the original captive nuts still on there? Almost looks like it's pulling them up...
Here's a pic from when I had mine out you can see the angled ends and, at the points, hard to see, both had maybe a 1/4" radius on the points....
And when I first installed mine the ends did seem to flip up a little but not as much as I can see in your. I Re-tightened them this past spring and are dead flat now...
Now, If I can ever get back to the BVI... LOL _________________ ::: Slowoval ::: LaDawri Sebring ::: '61 Creampuff ::: Dust Storm '66 ::: |

Yeah I bought that from the Kafer Nostalge place. Actually when i bought this mechnism from VW sun roof the guy didn't even know that some 1956 comes with square corners so he originally sent me the other rear tensioner (it's for sale )
I do have all the incased screws on the roof. I will try to curve them down when i take it off. I left in all closed down to see if it would bend things into place.
The BVI is nice, I'm in the USVI _________________ Virgin Islands Nice!

Yeah the early '56 rags are tricky, there's actually 2 different version of the rear squared bow. One has the same exact 11 hole the 3 folds (like the on I have and the one you need) and also a later style but has only 9 holes but is fatter like a round one would be. It was a nightmare when I was ordered my cover. First they sent me the nine hole style, then they sent me a 3 fold cover with too many slots and finally got right on the third time around...

Yes I know the difference, USVI is where the plane land and they try to sell us cheap Jewelry & then head over to Speedy's dock that takes us to the BVI... And you know when you cross the invisible border. Suddenly the islands and the monuments to architectural stupidity stacked in rows on top of each other cluttering up the scenery suddenly disappear just before you reach Tortola.
Took the last ride in mine Friday & now it snowed last night?
Doesn't really matter what VI... I can hate your weather.
Guess I'll go shovel now...
