Bender,
Thanks for coming to our reorganization meeting. As you know we are looking for new members as well as trying to reactivate our old ones. I can be reached at 954 553-5336 at just about any time of day to talk to interested Volkswagen lovers (air-cooled or water-cooled). We are planning to meet in September to try and get things moving again since the passing of our long time president, Steve Clark. I will post the time, date and location as soon as it is available. Any suggestions for a meeting place are appreciated.

I will work on it this week. Anybody planning on attending Volkstoberfest in Melbourne on Sept 25th? We normally caravan up on Saturday morning so we can attend the preshow party put on by GAVWC.

Bender, what do you mean by "getting the rest of the guys on board"? I'm always ready to hang with other clubs, or are you talking dual citizenships? _________________ '69 SC under resto

Last Wednesday we held a meeting at my office to discuss the future of the South Florida Volkswagen Club. It was attended by nine very animated and concerned members. In a nutshell, the Club lives on.
It was suggested that the Club enter the technological world by utilizing Facebook. Ray Strack volunteered to handle this and I am happy to say he did not only a fine job but he did it in short order. The Club is now on Facebook. In addition, Steve Smith from Panzer Aluminum suggested that we post on thesamba.com and he too set it up in short order. Hopefully, this will reach many more prospective new members and perhaps stimulate some of our older members. It is a great way to communicate to a much broader base of VW owners and it is free! Please visit these two networks and check out what is happening. Steve Saftler is trying to get a grip on our website in Steve Manning absence. The calendar of events is current and he is working on the rest of the website. Thanks Steve.
As far as the organization of the Club is concerned, I will stay on as Vice President of the Club until the end of December at which time I will step down after nine years. This is not to say that I am leaving the Club, just the office. Hopefully by that time some enthusiastic member will take over. Please keep in mind that the Club has nominations in November and the election normally takes place at our Christmas Brunch. This year it is planned for December 10th at the Long Horn at Cypress Creek Road and Andrews Avenue in Fort Lauderdale.
I am considering another organizational meeting in September, but none of the details are firm and any input is welcome. Also on September 25th is the German Accents VW Club Volkstoberfest in Melbourne. We will caravan up on Saturday (Sept 24th) around noon from Boynton Beach. Details and specific times will be forth coming. If you are interested in caravaning, please get in touch with me either by email or cell phone at (954) 553-5336.
On a personal note, I have had mixed feelings as to whether the Club wanted to survive. After the meeting on Wednesday, I came away with the feeling that the members do want it to continue. I want to thank Bill Greico, Steve Smith, Steve Saftler, Ted Koepfinger, Rolf Englefried, Ray Strack, Jerry Jiampetti and Bill Meyer for their input as well as their enthusiasm. It has recharged my interest in the club and I am sure that Steve Clark would be happy with the outcome.

Hi everyone:
Thank you for keeping the club alive. I am sorry that I never attend any event but I hope to change this in the fall. Too much travel.
In any event, note to Bruce, do you have any "original" round mirrors for my bus? or anyone else.
Thanks and upward with the Club.

Welcome aboard Rainer. I don't know whether Bruce checks in here often. You might want to give him a call. _________________ 1968 Volkswagen Beetle

Congrats on keeping old blood and finding new blood. We can't get anything going in Tampa even though we have plenty of VW's in the area _________________ Reasons to hate me:

Originals are very hard to come by. Bustoration has some very nice reproduction mirror heads that are worth the money. _________________ 1962 Turquoise/Blue White Sunroof Standard

Good to see the Club is going to keep moving forward. The Mills Pond show has always been a favorite of mine, mostly VW family.
