It was an emissions thing. The idea was when you let off the gas completely, it would slow the throttle shaft from snapping back to fully closed quickly. This was to let the engine completely burn off any gas that was still in the manifold from higher throttle settings before returning to idle and restricting the air supply (thus going rich and raising emissions out the tail pipe).
Removing it will just let it return to idle speed quicker when you let off the gas. |

Got the rear taillights, turn signals, and brake lights finally wired up and ready to go. Had some wiring issues I had to deal with but got them worked through and have the lights on a connecter so If I have to remove the cage all I have to do is unplug 1 connecter Looks good and works! Engine is ALMOST finished, installing new fuel pump, intake gaskets, and alt backing plate to try and get rid of the angle on the belt. HOPEFULLY the fuel pump will stop gas from getting in the oil after it sits... (new float, rebuilt carb, 3 psi fuel pressure)
After the engine runs, Ill get the hood back on, trunk release cable and dash put back together, gauges and switches installed, seats in, and be able to drive it in about a week or two Im hoping. I need to make it to my dads shop to weld and finish body work then off to paint! Subaru blue with white trim and stripe along the bottom of the door! _________________ 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL

Having worked in audio engineering, I just don't understand the concept of those kind of subwoofers...other than the fact that they make money. Oh, if only people could here what a good pair of speakers actually sounds like
Nice project by the way! It's nice to see someone has a little faith in the supers! _________________ Berrien 295

Did some random stuff today. Ran the wiring for the switches for the HIDs and the Reverse lights in some loom and behind the fuse box, put the trunk lid on and vacuumed out the bees nest inside the fresh air box, and did some prep work so the dash can go on. _________________ 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL

Much progress sorry I haven't posted in a while, been busy. I had to tear down my motor again because of compression loss.. ripped barrel gasket and some head studs pulled out. I ordered a new exhaust. It is a muffler instead of the stinger because of rain and snow. I'm gonna try to weld an exhaust tip onto it so it looks cooler sticking out of the cage. Welded the frame on the bottom on some wheel well in the back. Got the rear fenders mounted. Ordered my front fenders. I am hopefully installing the engine this weekend with an electronic fuel pump. I couldnt cure the gas in oil problem so this will hopefully do it. If not, the problem lies in the carb (I did rebuild it and this is the 2nd needle and seat I am trying).
If it is the carb, Should I go stock 34 pict 3? Or upgrade while I can? What is a good upgrade for more power but EASY to tune?
Haven't had a lot of time to work on the bug but was hoping to get it painted before summer ends.. I dont think that will happen. But the color I am for sure going with is Subaru World Rally Blue. It is an absolutely beautiful color. Look it up _________________ 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL

Before you get you heart to set on an electronic fuel pump, I'd want to know what it causing gas in your oil. Unless you get a low PSI pump (2-3 psi) you could really be filling your crank case with one! Define ripper barrel gasket? Are you talking about those wimpy paper things that went below the cylinders on older engines? Those are crap do not use them, and if there was on there a rip would not cause a leak. More likely your pulled studs are allowing a head to loosen up.
You cant go wrong with a small set of dual carbs (single barrels) on a stock sized engine! |

I tried 2 fuel pumps, rebuilt the carb, 3 psi fuel pressure, and now I am upgrading to an electric. I may have to get a regulator.
Those 2 problems (ripped barrel gasket and pulled out head studs) were the only that I could find. Only cyl #1 had the leak and that was the ripped gasket. Got a engine gasket kit and new head studs. Hopefully the engine will be done with that and the new fuel pump! We will see I'll let you know! _________________ 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL

I have duals on both my cars, sandrail with 1776 and dual Weber 44IDF,
and DD Baja with DP1600 and dual Kadrons. Gotta say, I love the ease
with which the Kad's were set up and the tuneability! They woke my 1600
right up! I did the mod to use a vacuum advance distributor, and the
car runs like a gem. _________________ 92 F-150 4x4 92 KX250 83 IT490 92 LT250 06 Raptor DP1600 Sandrail |

If you've tried different fuel pumps with no success, the common denominator here is the carb. You say it was rebuilt, but if there is an issue internally you will never fix it with a different pump. I'd swap carbs first and see if the issue goes away. I hate to see you throw money at it hoping to find an issue! |

While that's a good point I'm loving my single Spanish weber 44 on my 1641 motor. As soon as I get paid again I'll be paying off my mechanic for the rebuild of my Spanish weber 40 and swapping over to that for better fuel economy and better lower end power and throttle response. I have a noticeable power gain over of my progressive 34/36? And I love it. I think with my 44, pertronix electric distributor, and fallen rocky mountains 30x9.50s I get about 17 mpg which isn't horrible.
I don't like the dualsyself because of the desert running I do. The chances of hitting it with rocks or debris or whatever makes me paranoid. _________________ "In case I don't see you, good afternoon , good evening, and goodnight."

Your Baja looks great! It is good to see a young man keeping these type of skills alive, there are just not enough of them anymore. Keep up the good work.

BIG UPDATE! PICS TO COME!
Front:
-Fenders mounted, headlight buckets are getting put in soon
-New bumper brackets welded in and front apron put on so it can be removed, need to mess with that a little more.
- Sway bar fixed from frame rot
- Frame is almost all welded up
- front bumper being very close to modification. I have good ideas youll see
Engine:
- Putting on dual kadron 40mms!!
- Electric fuel pump + regulator
- Engine cage repainted
- I wrapped the exhaust header with insulation wrap so radiant heat doesnt contaminate cold air flowing around heads (Also covered it because of paint peeling off, 2 bonuses!!)
- New trimil exhaust with resonator instead of stinger so water/snow cant get into engine, will also be quieter so cops dont pull me over
Will be putting this sucker back in soon Cant wait to drive.. soon. pics on the way _________________ 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL

Suuuhweeeet man. Can't wait for pictures.
Are your headers ceramic? I'm assuming that heat wrap stuff will corrode the metal if its exposed to a lot of moisture?
I've never read any kind of definitive stuff on it before. _________________ "In case I don't see you, good afternoon , good evening, and goodnight."

Front is all welded up and body parts put on, just need to put in and wire headlights and modify front bumper
Working on dual carb setup. In picture I put on a different pulley and painted it black with red T, 7.5, and B marks, new oil filter housing, dual carbs, 75amp alternator, SVDA distributor

I have a question about the SVDA: Where does the vacuum line go to on the distributor, a tee then to both the manifolds? _________________ 1995 Mitsubishi 3000GT SL

Did you get the kads setup for a vacuum advance distributor? It should go to a nipple on the left carb. |
