Started out looking like a solid bug, but looks can be decieving as you all know,
floorpans are shot, as are the heater channels (surprise!) also the driverside shock mount is almost gone.
the majority of the work is going in the body and chassis,
the engine is no prob, since i know my engines, untill now i've built plenty of bikes, this is actualy my first car build.
the car list owned so far;
94 suzuki alto 0.8
95 nissan sunny 1,4
93 ford t-bird 5,0 cobra engine
74 beetle
the bikes;
86 yamaha xj550 secca
77 Zundapp 529
68 Zundapp 517
76 Zundapp 529
90 Honda VFR750f
37 (yes 1937!) Norma 234 |

more detailed pics would be helpful - focusing on the pans and wherever else you've got rust concerns.
may be dealing with a difference in across the pond variants:
My 74 SB has got the shock absorber (used to anyway) bumper mounts - while yours sports the solid blade style. Those went only to 73 here in the states.
Good luck on the build. _________________ 74 1303 (RevBug): plan for German Look

Hi,
i'm back,
did some more work on the bug yesterday,
took the headliner out and aal the bits and pieces left in it,
today i've been looking around on the net,
as i also collect classic stuff in all shape and sizes, i couldn't pass on a classic 8 track player! picked it up for next to nothing! might build it into the bug when it's ever going to be done.
for now it's sitting quite nicely next to my atari 2600 and my vintage copper phone. (pics to come ofcourse!) |

doing the shockmount plate today,
got some hep, 2 friends (both welders by trade) gave me a hand and layed a solid weld on my bug, not bad concidering the metal on my bug is all rotted, the repair pannel is a cheap of the shelf none fitting piece of s##t , and they even welded it with a €50 welding machine.
Before
fitting
Grinding
bolt it down
Weld it
result , not bad eh?
still got some gaps to fill, and some welds to clean, at least it's getting there! |
