There is a wire that appears to be cut off, coming from one of the wires from the license plate light.
I think it is a ground wire, but I am not sure where to ground it at.
Perhaps the negative terminal of my coil?
Actually, maybe it is the power??

As you can see, the 2 wires coming from the license plate light branch off.
One wire, the one in question, goes off to the left.
The other wire goes to the right into a cable connector with 2 wires on the other side that connect to cable connectors on each side...the ones that have most of the rear tail-light wires connecting to it.

Does anyone have any idea where this wire going off to the left is suppose to hook up to?

This is a 71 Super.
PO may have already redone wiring, which will make it a little harder to find on a diagram to see where this is intended based on the wire colors.

what that looks like to me is for your reverse lights. it gets power off the hot side of the coil then runs down the the switch on the trans then back to the engine bay and branches off to each side for the reverse lights.

remember on your stocked colored wiring brown is ground.

wiring diagrams.

you are correct!
I think it does go to the hot side of the coil.

The other wires I was ignoring are indeed color coded correctly to match the license plate light.

The other wire I was asking about was longer so I assumed it was the one to the back up switch on the transmission.

But looking at this wire pictured above, one brown wire goes to the ground on the right and the other wire is brown with blue stripes.
Wiring diagrams indicate this as power to the light.

Looks like this one is solved.
Thanks.

Actually, now that I think of it and by looking at the diagram, this wire that goes to the coil......should I have a fuse in between.
If so, is this something I can buy or will I have to go to the eletrically store to purchase something specific?
