Lower front door inner frame KF 324 & 323. Not sure but I think only Klassicfab make them. I'm not one to bitch about much and appreciate that Gerson makes them. But the fit is poor can work with that better then what was there. OK heres what the big problem is at the hinge step down the metal has a crease and is cracked and needs to be welded. If you don't rework this part its not going to last very long.
front side of hinge crease after blasting
back side with crack
after welding crack
overall poor fit that one can make it work
Bottom line is its the best out there now just check for cracks at the hinge crease . _________________ My 59 panel plus 36hp valve covers http://s122.photobucket.com/albums/o265/faster50/59%20panel/ |

Does anyone know if the KF lower windshield repair piece Has had the wiper hole issues fixed? I bought the piece a couple years ago and am finally getting to my project . The holes for the wipers are not even close to lining up. Just wondering if this has been addressed.
Also, has anyone used the AC piece? if so, how was this area on their part?
Thanks...Pete _________________

I bought a KF repair section a year ago, I had to cut the bottom half off and replaced it with a home-made patch, turned out fine. |

Here's a comparison of the nose repair sections. The V is about 1/4" too wide at the top on the KF, the AC is dead on, just had to sharpen the crease a bit.

This was a tricky repair, but I found the KF piece to be absolutely amazing and lines up perfect. The flaw in the panel must be higher up because I didn't have to cut as high as you did. Now, on the other hand the curve was slight off on the other side too, but I see yours is the opposite of mine and you didn't have to go that high. Overrall pleased with the quality but I definitely see what you mean.

There was a post earlier in this thread that hit the nail on the head, all of these busses were stamped at different points in the life of the dies and on different dies. The donor panel used by Gerson or AC or whoever could have been stamped at any time on any number of dies, not to mention the 50 years since that they have rusted, tweaked, etc.
As an example, I recently replaced a front apron on my 66 Beetle with a front apron from a donor 66, guess what, the inner structure under the fuel tank was off by nearly 1/2", I almost shit as they were both carefully measured and cut in the exact same spot. It's foolish to think that you can buy any metal from anyone, including OG or NOS, and expect it to drop in, sometimes the planets align and it does, but typically it takes dryfitting, modifying, bending, beating, welding.....
I have used crappy Klok metal, the red stuff, older WW, and am planning on picking up some green at CTS to patch up my 65 bus. The saying, you get what you pay for is true, although the red battery tray I have for my DC seems to dryfit well, we'll see how it fits when I actually install it. I have helped install a fair amount of Gerson's stuff on other vehicles and have been impressed with the quality of stamping, and the weight. I'm no nutswinger, but you have to respect a guy who is putting everything he has on the line to make a business like this work, not to mention the fact that aside from a few folks (who post repeatedly), there is nothing but good to be said about him or Ronnie in the customer service department. How a company handles the customer after the sale speaks volumes. _________________ Matt Johnson

Crofty, sorry I missed the obvious sarcasm, I just hope this doesn't put me on your shithead list for life
I'm not bashing Gerson, it's feedback that hopefully will lead to better fitting panels, BTW, anyone looking for a KF 8" nose repair section? |

Has anyone tried the complete B pillar from Klassicfab? Im considering to buy it for my bus because it is in bad shape from the accident who knows what happened.. I did see thoms posts relating to the pillar but hoping to see the current state of B pillar if gerson improved it or not. |
I just received complete b-pillars from Gerson this past weekend and they look damn nice. I have a single cab dual treasure chest so my b-pillars are a bit different than a passenger bus, but I will post them installed here once I can get my doglegs removed. _________________ Shadetree Westy

That lower nose install looks great cleaned up! Very nice. I am going to buy some AC single cab metal from WW very soon. Their photos look crisp. Prices are good as well. I will keep all posted here. |
