I once heard It's always a good idea to use New rubbers..... So....
I ordered some in from a local Tire Barn. Had a GREAT experience with them and will trade with them again in the future!
I chose the Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S in a 205/70-15.
This is a 26.3" tall tire and will clear fenders with No issues(my last set were 215/75-15 and only rubbed on "special" bumps, i.e. Spuratic, but really filled the wheel wells).
Anyway, here they are. I was in the process of repairing a couple of the hubcap clips, so my caps aren't shown here.
I also finished up the trunk. Turns out the vent on the filler neck was closed off by the Master Series...Doh!
I opened the vent orifice and installed the down tube for it. Gave the trunk a good Vaccuming and she's ready to go!

The ribs on your rockers look different. Is it just the pictures? |
Finally saw this during CYW. Enough other Things to compare to. These outer rockers were replaced in '81 in Greece, when the first resto was done.
Given the other parts found in the parts bin I received with the Thing, I'd say these were Danish stamped aftermarket rockers. Not sure what other sources they had in Greece at the time, but I think that explains the variant here.
Good eye Ron!
EDIT: I found some photos(anyone remember photos?LOL!) of Our Thing when purchased. The aftermarket rockers used are definently a different stamping with the ribs. I'll post once I get them digitized..) _________________ '74 Thing, "Our Thing"....

Not jacking your thread, but I've got to give the Knox Volks Motor Club due props! I had promised my 3 year old I'd take him to Dollywood Sat afternoon, but when I arrived at the show grounds, man was it packed. Joe and some fellow club members made a spot for me to park so that I could leave to give my son some fun too. Awesome group of guys and gals! Thanks so much!!! If I lived closer (over 2 hours away), I'd be a member. Again, thanks for the hospitality! By the way, you've got to see Joe's car in person. Pics don't do it justice. Very nice job and the subtle details in the paint make it!

Car looks great! I have the same wheels, same size tires and just got a set of those same wheel covers with the Wolfsburg logo.
The only thing I am finding is those wheels have a tendency to get a fine surface rust after driving through wet and muddy terrain. _________________ Ghia Owner Emeritus |

Thank you Nova! I wax my wheels at least twice a year. Front and back. Helps for wiping off brake dust, and protects against corrosion. Although I don't exactly see wet/muddy terrain! I've done that on my Desert rail and a Baja as well. Works good in all situations! _________________ '74 Thing, "Our Thing"....

OK, last big update for a while. I'm just driving it and fine tuning the carbs now that I got my Kaddieshack Jet/venturi combo. What a difference that made, to have to proper combo for my particular engine!!!!
What a blast this 1915 is too, more power than I've Ever felt in an aircooled. I'll have to go big with all my future projects now! LOL!
Here are the custom Steel box tube bumpers. I dropped the original bumpers to a buddy and 3 days later picked these up!

Looks real good. Very clean, I like the way your front bonet looks with the black and the blue. The top fits very nice. Enjoy post more progress when you have some. Although it looks done |

@ Saddle: Just saw your post.. Not tracking your comment on the black/blue bonnet?
Thanks for the comments!
Some more major things done are the acquisition of TTS dual stainless system, and subsequent modification! Check it out!
Closeup of new Flange for muffler removal during service.
And the new gusset to support the tailpipe that was tacked to the header from TTS. Pretty good support here!
I will be getting the Pass side back to the welder this week to have him move the intake pre-heat connection further down stream. (See dark green marks)

As I mentioned my 1915 with 34 pict 3 thread, I have been doing a Bunch of tuning and tweaking trying to get the Duals set proper.. Not happening for This guy!(please don't comment on this, I've heard it all plenty!)..
Here are the bits I have for this project. I have all the original stuff from Our Thing, and only needed to acquire the carb.
Dismantled and soaked the carb for a couple hrs, along with scrubbing all the grime off. Made sure all the passages were clean, and then did a rebuild on it!
Also got the intake assembly painted!
Debating on restoring the original air cleaner(not pictured, but I have it) and then simply using a cone filter inside the can, OR just getting a small oval K&N for right on the carb.. _________________ '74 Thing, "Our Thing"....
