I keep telling my wife that the Vanagon needs something that looks like an ARB or Road Armor bumper. She finally agrees. We are set to travel to my dad's house and build one this spring. I have drawings and measurements in hand.
Now I guess I don't have to build one. That thing is almost exactly what I envisioned the Vanagon should have. It's f'ing gnarly. |

I went with the Rocky Mountain bumper, twin peaks I think it was called..
They make a matching front, rear bumper, easy to install, but you shuold throw away the hardware they give, because SAE does not belong on a van, and cause its a low grade SS and stripped out way too easy..
but.. aside from that the design is pretty nice.. looks strikingly similar to this, less money and easier to install i am sure.
I opted for the overriders, the delux bar, and the d rings.
MY van has balls now. It also has a built in Trailer hitch. awesome. |

Very F'n cool!
What I don't like about the GW design is that it's nothing more than a stock bumper made of plate steel. The RMW has much more style to it. This is pretty cool too. Everything seems to be bolt on though. I feel like the bumper frame sticks out there way too much. Unless you start to cut down on the frame, any bumper is going to hinder approach angle. _________________ Justin

Nothing Bostig does is under built. Very cool and I like the sneak peek CAD drawings in the video. _________________ 1990 Syncro Passenger Van |

Super well crafted....clearly some killer engineering skills.

Not many photos of it on a vehicle. From the ones that were there, I thought it looks kind of klunky. How much does it weigh? Throw a winch on it and it looks like it might really be heavy. |

concerned about weight, leave your fat or regular friend at home..
always hear whining about weight. and in bumpers and restraints it's ok to be beefy.. IMHO
get yourself some nice light fiberglass bumper covers cheap from GoWesty and see how they hold against the shopping carts.
and the rest of the OEM bumeprs are only qualified for shopping carts.. and not loaded full of groceries either..

Looks kinda cool, but, a little on the Mad Max side of things for my taste and definitely too heavy for me. Adequate protection can be had in a much lighter package from several of our vendors. |

a Solidworks license for vanagon business ?? they have to do pretty well to afford that!!

Funny, I was thinking the same thing. I know their stuff is premium price, and premium quality, but seems like a lot of overhead for a niche market business.
Do they do anything else? Just curious, not a rip. Maybe they farm out the CAD work?
Bumper is not my taste, but a nice design and seems well engineered. _________________ 87 Syncro tintop
