Oh well. I waited a long time and was thinking i would finally want to get a rear bumper this winter to protect my engine and have a hitch. Don't want to buy the front and not know if the rear will over be. thanks for the response.

Me either brother. I bought the flimsy black bumpers from Van Cafe, spray-painted them with texture-paint and put a tow-loop-hitch on the back. I'm pretty happy with them, but they are practically just cosmetic... and it took a bit of hammering to get them bent to match the actual bumper-mounts on the van.

~$400 == $200 for the bumpers + $200 for the hitch (e-trailer)

So has anyone received, assembled, installed the Bostig bumper? I'd love to see pictures and hear if it's really that simple. Their website suggests it's done and shipping. Great video son their websitehowing the fitment and novice welding skills needed.

People have them.
I've got one that has been installed since March/April.

Looking to start on another one this winter for my other syncro.
I'm not sure that there are pictures posted yet though, and since the ones that were sold were sold as a pre-production run I believe we're still not supposed to share pictures.

I will say this,
I LOVE my NFB-C. It looks awesome. It functions well. I have used the tow hooks more than once, and will be mounting a winch atop it as well.
I get compliments constantly on the rugged look.
The flat top makes an awesome step.

So to answer your question, there are some in existence!

*EDITED* I changed my mind. I don't want to stir the pot. That is just a silly request.

Please support vendors who have taken the time to design and offer Vanagon specific products....not just poach them.

I have to agree with everyone else, asking for the plans to produce yourself is stabbing a vendor/engineer in the back.

If you for instance saw the bumper and said "I like the look of that" and chose to copy it as best you could, doing it your own way, that's awesome. But to try to get the actual CAD Files and just produce them yourself is not so great...

Furthermore, the NFB-C comes in quite a few parts, all with very exacting tolerances. Even if you had the files and had your guy cut them, the odds of getting the quality control issues worked out on the first try are slim. I'm sure bostig's built a few that weren't as good at first, but now they're pretty awesome!
The precision of the cuts allows everything to snap together really well, keeping pieces at 90* angles simply through the tightness of the fit while you weld them. It's sweet~!

You are right--the request does seem a little shady. My apologies to the Bostig guys. They have put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into making a HIGH quality product.

I want something sturdy, but if I can save on weight that would be nice too. I am toying with trying to weld something up vs. getting a RMW or GW bumper. For me it is a time game...not sure I have the time at this point in my life to horse around with putting a bumper together.

I just need some help on the starting point. I think with having just the top top section done on the CNC--I can make my customer bumper. However---my original request isn't the most tactful or respectful of the IP owner. Thanks for pointing it out RMW.

That would actually be a really cool business model if someone could find a market for it. ready-to-go cad drawings sold to folks that cnc them and weld them up.

If Bostig were to not bring the bumper to retail for some reason, they could charge for the plans. That way they've still got a source of revenue coming in (however small).

Sweet bumper fer sure.

Tight tolerances. The covers for the winch receiver would not fit after coating.

Maybe a photo will drum Bostig up some business, although I can't find anything about the NFB on the new web site. Hope I'm not breaking any agreements

Is there some kind of secret site access code to look for NFB avalability? Cant seem to find any information on this product. Do you have to have a Zetec in your van? NOT GOING that route!

This is the page: http://www.bostig.com/bostig-nfb-bumper-project/
Seems like they have pulled the content. Sad

They've been pretty quiet on their FB page, but I did see this hopeful comment from a month ago.

We are very excited to announce that Bostig is partnering with Burley Motorsports (http://burleysmotorsports.com/) as the exclusive manufacturer of our NFB line of bumpers. We are especially excited because this partnership will extend beyond bumpers and allow us to offer exceptional value to both of our customers that are looking to build true expedition rigs like Syncro Bo or just improve their vanagons with the very best powertrain, suspension, and exterior accessories available.

The NFB, NFBc, and matching rear bumper with integrated hitch, carrier options, and shackle mounts will be available this driving season, keep an eye out for announcements on:

our website

and facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bostig/

We share quite a lot beyond the love of our rigs with Burley, and we look forward to the new value and performance we will be able to deliver to our mutual customers along with the proven solutions we've both been delivering for years now.

In short, go Bostig / Burley!!
