I love what you have done to the 77. I purchased a 77 about 2 months back. It was in about the same shape as yours in Chrome Yellow. It is nice to see all the photos and the progression of your work. Mine has bee in the shop since the day after arrival and it still won't pass inspection. I have removed all cabinets and interior parts, cleaning painting and refurbishing each of them with care. You mentioned a man across the pond who makes that similar carpet. Do you have his information to share? Thank you for all the posts and keep up the great work. Tom

Well another upgrade is a foot.

I'm abandoning my current point and condesor setup on my dizzy for a pertronix. Staying with the Bosch blue coil. And yes I will travel with a extra dizzy setup with points just incase.

Funny thing is inhad purchased a pertronix when i first did this rebuild, ne'er installed it and sold it of for a loss, now here I am puttin one back in. Confused

Also upgrading to a rebuilt throttle body done by Phil. Item purchased and should ship Monday. Thanks Phil for the quality work.

I'm thinking when the throttle body comes I will install my NOS AFM as well. Oh boy!!! Current AFM is working fine so have yet to test the NOS. hoping no adjustment is needed. Being at altitude running to rich is just a waste of fuel anyways.

Did a car show in the mountains couple weeks back. Engine never got above 190* climbing in the mountains. On the way home running 65mph for 2 hours in 87* temps she never got above 215*

Adrian's engine is running cool. Love his port and polish on these heads. Sending him another long block soon so I have a spare rebuilt engine at the ready. Will oil the cylinders and crate it for 5,10,15 years from now. If there is a problem on a cross country adventure it will be there if needed. Considering parts cost and availability 5 years from now its gonna be a fortune to do a type4 build. Plus I already have all the parts new in this longblock. This is the one that developed a knock early on after the build. I just put the unit to the side and started fresh with another engine builder. Adrian- Headflowmasters.com.

If your in need of engine, head or case work. Tell Adrian Matt Curtis referred you and get superior customer service and quality affordable parts.

No on fog lights. No fog in Colorado!! As for other VW add ons I have been in the fence. I have access to a clock and the side step in other project buses I have. After much thought early on this subject I have decided to leave her as she is for now.

Did you ever have a tally on what your restoration cost?
I thought you might pipe in on my thread on restorations but I don't think you did. Curious about what quality resto's tally up on the old pocket book. Wink

I have a good idea of what the number is. Lets just say if I added the many hundreds of hours I have working on him plus parts and told you that number you would fall over. I will tell you this, he's insured for 35k and I would sell him for less than 38k.

I know some will choke at that number but considering what's in him that is a extremely fare number. Plus when people ask how much the could buy him for the # weeds out the people who really could not afford to take care of him the way he deserves. Heated garage the rest of his days.

He has won 8 awards since I finished the restoration( every show we take him to he wins.). Made it into Hot VW magazine and best of all we love him. Probably will never sell untill the day I can no longer go camping in him.

Today we had some fun working on him for a few.

Added a new Mahle air filter also added a new GeeBee hose section between plenum and cold start valve.

I recieved the pertronix module and last night attempted to install it on a extra dizzy I have. Well learned not to use a hammer to seat the round magnet. Sad

Cracked it. The dizzy I have is NOS and the fit was real tight. So bummed. Maybe it's a sign!!! Live and learn. Really am a dumb ass as I even gave thought that the hammer was probably a little extreme.

To most bay owners who have busted their balls working on bays, your number would easily be understood. We sure must be a crazy lot! Wink

on the pertronix units, you really have to wrestle it for a bit the first few installs...theres a technique. its a feel thing, or i would tell ya how. but it you pay real close attention to the lobes, you will notice when it lines up and slides on (a bit o grease on the shaft help here) it will slide right on with hand pressure. best way to check is the rotor should bottom out on the top of the lobes, so if it doesnt go ALL the way down, keep wiggling the part your sliding over the shaft.

did you break the dizzy, or the electronic points?
