starter relay question

hi, i have a 71 bay with a dual battery setup, i want to remove it ,i was wondering is there a factory location for the dtarter relay the guy had it mounted on the skirt ounted the backside of the engine, i didnt recall a starter relay on my bug but i wasnt sure if the guy added it or not thanks

No airkooled VW came from the factory with a "starter relay".
