That would be fantastic! Fasty cruise up to the North Shore to have some drinks/burgers or shrimp trucks. Would love to see another fastback on the islands. I have only seen 1 other fastback here so far. I'm sure they're all in hiding... _________________ 68 Fastback Build: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=5396323#5396323 |

Let me check into pricing to have a few of the jigs made up. I thought about 'renting' this one out, but I have no control of size drills people use. It could easily be ruined. I think the Al jigs will have a limited lifespan as well, after so many dashes they'll inevitably get sloppy.

Good point on the drill size. I would just like to buy one for my own use.
Are there two different templates or can the center holes just be omitted for the '67- 70 dash style? |
Same template, just need to omit the center holes.
I just sent the guy that CNC'd it for me an email and got a delivery fail. I know a couple others I'll try, but if anyone has a hook up please send me a PM. It needs to be done CNC as the holes were too small for laser or water. |
Brent, I'm interested in a template as well. Please let me know what you find out from your sources. There's a place here that did my fabrication work that has a large CNC but I don't know if they can do a detailed piece like your template. I can go by next week and ask. I'm looking to ask them if they can make me another item. _________________ MonT3

Well done, Sir, the holes came out great.
The Dash looks very "original" now.
Good luck with the jigs.

As you all know, the last batch of dash's went fast.
Should you still need LHD(both types) or RHD dash's, please let me know.
I am planing the next production run, and need to know who wants and how many.
Now that the drilling jigs are on offer, here is a way to get them to "LOOK" original.
Still cost effective at US $ 249 airmailed and insured (per each)

Tonight I received an excellent quote for 10 jigs. So give it a month or so and I should have some.
Herman, I hope you're cool with me stepping in and providing these. I will sell at cost + ship/insurance. _________________ 69 Fastback Build

Got an update from the CNC guy today. 6/10 are done. He said the small holes occasionally broke a bit. Should have them ready to ship in just a few more weeks.
Can someone do me a favor take some measurements for me as I don't have a real dash here. I need the exact measurements of the corner holes in reference to something fixed on the dash, like the top of the clock hump or an easy to locate corner. When I drilled that first dash I made a paper template and looked at about every dash picture I could find to get it right. It could be a couple mm's off and I'd like to get it as accurate as possible. I have a second dash I'll take more pictures of being drilled to send with the jigs. Thanks! _________________ 69 Fastback Build

Any idea when you think you will get machine time for some LHD dashes? Week, weeks, months? |
