Had a discussion with Everett about creating a new forum category for super beetles only, essentially breaking the " Beetle 68 and up" category into two separate forums for standards vs supers. What do you think? _________________ 1973 Super Beetle

I'd support that. Supers are so... unique... most SB specific questions (which appears to be most of the ones in this subforum) just dont apply to Standards. _________________ 79 SB Vert, in pieces.

Seems like it would cut down on the "dropped spindles" suggestions. |

Uh... NO.
They are pretty much identical front he A pillar back. Only the front suspension, steering and dash are different.
There's no need to 2 forums because many questions such a drivetrain can get better coverage in a single forum.

So what if you have a problem with your rear torsion bars and you post it in the "Super" forum. You won't get any answers from people with Standards.
They are too similar. _________________ Glenn

My initial feedback was that I doubted we would do it as I didn't see a reason but I was open to feedback.
Plus it would very very difficult to move old topics to the a new Super section.
If there is an existing issue with confusion on Standard vs. Super questions, it's better to just make sure any Super related topics have Super in the title as part of creating a proper descriptive title for any thread you start. _________________ How to Post Photos

That's 1/3 of the vehicle though that is DIFFERENT and for we super owners, it would be nice to not have to weed through the spindle and flat dash posts. One could stretch your logic to be interpreted as meaning we should have ONE SINGLE beetle forum, since they all look pretty much the same, engine, drivetrain, funny dome shaped bodies
I'd agree there are pro's and con's to splitting them out though.
I still would like to see it happen. _________________ 1973 Super Beetle

So you want separate 1302 and 1303 forums? _________________ Glenn

it's not that i don't like it,.it's not my snibble fest,.. personally i wouldn't go to someone elses house and start suggesting what color he should paint the walls....
well my friend,. before you get all mad and call out the McPherson strut minions,. you are a guest here, in someone elses house,.. something to remember as you go on your quest.
the Eurovan people make the same "requests".
i think they have more of a valid argument as do the 67 only people as it is one of a kind,..yes?
perhaps a t34 Ghia forum too? not that i mind being part of the type 3 forum.

I've had both, and I think a Super Beetle forum would be a good idea. Too much confusion when supers and standards are mixed in things like lowering threads. I can hardly count the number of times a super owner's been told to get lowered spindles, the the conversation goes round and round again.
Maybe a better solution would be to get someone to start manufacturing drop spindles for Super Beetles. Then we could probably keep them all together. |
