Thanks for the kind words.
Been working to get things mocked up and have ran into some issues.
My throttle bodies are putting the fuel rails into the side of the engine compartment.
I need to talk to CB performance and have some new ones ordered.
Also have to talk to them about the wiring for the EFI kit. Im changing it up and running a MSD 7AL box and its a hint different than the 6 box that they give instructions for.
Then there is the placement of everything up front. Its a pain to decide where to place the items and make them work well and look good. _________________ 58 Binz DC #151 "Nacho"

Cool build. I love when people do what they want on their car, and not buy into the guilt purists try to push on to us. I have a few guys upset with me for what im doing to my 55, not nearly as drastic as your build though. More of the 70s cal look. Build somewhere in thrboval section.
Whats the reason for ditching turbo? Im not a turbo guy at all, personally i think they all run and sound like shit on a vw, but depending on the rest of motor, cam, heads, compression, carbs could make it run worse. _________________ Gotta give my props to:

Thanks! I try not to worry about what negative others think of changing up my bug how I like... unless its constructive criticism, i do like that.
Decided against the turbo because yes, they are loud but I just wanted something a little simpler. Still in question on how well it will run minus the turbo. Im not against pulling the engine and swapping some stuff around to make er run right. what might I expect? too low of compression? _________________ 58 Binz DC #151 "Nacho"

Without knowing specifics. Depending on how much boost was intended, and what cam and heads are used, compression could be anywhere from say... 6:1-9:1 running a big ida motor would run not so well with that low of compression. I personally wouldnt build an ida motor and use anything south of 9:1.
Cam could be an issue. Some cams work well with both n/a and turbo, some are specically made for turbo use and will run like a dog, and be a nightmare to try to tune out with a set of carbs.
If i where you, if you dont know for sure whats in it, id pull the oil pump, and check what cam is in it, and pop a head off, measure ccs, and deck height. Get ypur compression ratios set where wpuld be ideal for you, hope cam works well with n/a. This way too, with heads, valve size, and cam, youll have a good idea of what jets and venturies to start off with. _________________ Gotta give my props to:

Ok, went with the pull out and take a look advice.
I know the engine is a 2332 as I took bore and stroke measurements when i first picked it up. Here is a pic of the number on the cam and a pic of the shim in the head. Whats me next steps?
Now running dual weber 48 ida carbs in place of the turbo efi set up. do I need to do anything more?
Thanks!

The C35 is ok. Your motor will benefit from 1.25 rockers of you don't already have them. I'd set the compression to 9:1, keep the deck height under .060". It will be a torque monster for sure.
Are those heads hemi cut? _________________ EMPI Power Rules! |

Ok, Im kinda new to a few terms here. When you say to keep the deck height under .060... what am i looking to measure? setting the compression to 9:1 is accomplished by the deck height?
here is a pic of my rockers and heads.
The manifolds I have are ported but I plan on getting new ones so I dont have to port the heads. _________________ 58 Binz DC #151 "Nacho"

Have the heads ported. Have the heads ported. Have the heads ported! The heads are where your power is made, if you spend any money on this engine, spend it on the heads!
Those rockers are stock 1.1:1. Such a large engine with large carbs (and hopefully ported heads) will really benefit from 1.25:1 rockers (with that cam).
Deck height is the distance from the top of the piston to the top of the cylinder when the piston is a top dead center (highest point). No less than .040", no more than .060".
Let's see some better pics of the chambers. What is the valve size? _________________ EMPI Power Rules! |

Valve size please! I agree with GTV again...
Not sure if I'd keep that cam, but its already in there, and splitting the case is a lot of work...
Your power band will peak at 5K (witch means it will make massive bottom end torque / and will ramp up fast)
You'll be leaving a lot of power on the table if you skip porting. Weld them up and make golf ball holes in,em |

The C35 is similar to the Engle 110 with slightly less lift. With properly matched components, the 110 x 1.25's pulls to about 6200-6300, peak power around 5700. Expect similar results with the C35x1.25. _________________ EMPI Power Rules! |

Isn´t there a performance forum somewhere?
This does not sound as beeing about a 38-53 vw. _________________ Master of my domain! |

I see your point.
I got a ton of good info from yall in the mean time.
Ill be going for news heads after all. Port them to short manifolds. And the new rockers. done deal! _________________ 58 Binz DC #151 "Nacho"
