It's been a while since I've had a buggy but I happened upon this Corsair from a guy at work. The deal was to good to pass up so I brought it home yesterday afternoon.
Here it sits in all it's dirty glory!
Started out putting a LP front end on it.
Got the rear suspension put in it along with a close ratio transaxle and Jamar rear disc brakes. Then I bolted on a set of paddle tires to see how they fit.
Now to the fun stuff! A 2275 turbo with blow through dual Dellorto 45 mm carbs. Hopefully it should be a wild ride!
Here it is along with my brothers rail.
Well, that's it for today. My brother and I got quite a bit done today but I do have some time off of work so I hope to finish it by the end of next weekend. I'll update as I go.

Well, it's been a while since I've updated. I was hoping to have this thing together in a week or two but that flew out the window.
When I fabbed the mounts for the suspension seats I found out the roll cage was to close to my head. I then decided to change the top bars. Well, once I took the cage out I decided to just start from scratch so I could do it how I wanted it.
After I completed the cage I stepped back to look at the buggy and decided the front end was to narrow. So I pulled off the front beam and made it 6 inches wider. I was gonna put in two adjusters on each beam and cut up some torsion stacks to put in. After thinking about it for a few minutes I decided to bite the bullet and go with a set of Fox 2.0 coil over shocks. This decision added a lot of time to the build since I now had to fab up upper shock mounts. After a bunch of brain storming, measuring, bending, cutting and welding I finished that part. Then I found out my steering box was junk so I figured, what the hell, and picked up a rack for it. I got that installed and built some tie rods out of 1 inch .120 wall DOM tubing with FK heims and tall misalignment shims.
After that I decided it would probably be safer with four wheel brakes so i picked up a set of front disc brakes for it as well. I also picked up two 15 X 7 and two 15 X 5 BTR wheels for it. Then I ended up putting an aluminum fuel tank in it since the new steering and front suspension took up all the real estate where the stock tank had been. I also got two Fox shocks for the rear as well. It's getting closer but I learned, once again, not to put a deadline out there for these builds. Also, take your budget and throw it out the window!
Anyhow, here's a few pictures of where it is now. Thanks for looking!

Got a few more things done. Made up and installed the AN lines. Also got the rear bumper finished and mounted as well as the 55 watt HID lights. Getting closer!
I tie strapped the AN lines to the bumper temporarily until I get some insulated clamps.

Well. it's getting really close to testdrive time. The front bumper is built and all the lights are installed. I've got a couple of small items to take care of then it's time to hit the trails!

Out of interest, if you fitted indicators and brake lights could you street register it?
I have been tossing around the notion of registering it for the street. It already has brake lights. I would need to put turn signals, a front windshield and wipers on it though.

why do all you fiberglass folks put swingarms on them? seems like 90+% of buggys run swingarms _________________ 73 Beetle, Ghia front brakes, Type 3 rear brakes, 1776, Solex 34 Pict-3, Bosch SVDA, '97 Mustang seats

Another update!
We took the toys back up to Azusa canyon this weekend since the rain spoiled the plans for El Mirage Here is a short video of the trip. Not a lot of area to build much boost but the rough roads will let you know if you left anything loose. Sorry about the poor audio but all I brought was the waterproof cover for the GoPro and the camera was a little loose in the case. (note to self-bring all the covers next time!)

Your setup looks like what I am hoping to do to my manx. do you have any other pics of the front and rear suspension? What size towers are you using on the front? what length of shock? Im hoping I wont have to cut body to fit the towers and shocks. What did you have to do to the rear to clear those paddles? When I take mine to Glamis the fender lips hit the top of the tire. Did you have to use a body lift? How wide is the front and rear with the dirt tires on? If you dont mind me asking, what did it run you to do the front and rear suspension?

Here are a few pics I could find. I'm not running front beam mounted shock towers.
This is the piece I bent up and welded for the front upper shock mount. It ties into both front beam tubes, the roll cage and the pan.
This one was taken before I added the extra tubing to make it a double shear mount but it shows where it ties into the cage.
The front shocks are 10" stroke with 150 over 225 springs. The rear are 14" stroke. There was no body cutting for the front shocks. I ended up needing to trim the rear lip off of the body to clear the paddles under full compression even with the 2" body lift that's on it. They are 14.50 paddles though so if you have smaller ones the body lift may be enough.
Here's a pic of it out at Glamis under some pretty decent compression to show you how close it still gets.
As for the cost, the shocks and springs were around $1200.00. The rest of the stuff I had lying around. As for the width, I don't know although I will measure it as soon as I get a chance. _________________ My build thread http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=482400
