Hey all, just wondering whats a good distance to narrow a front beam on my 63 bug withought hitting the inner fender wells. Im running 135r15 tires in the front with stock smoothies. i like the look of a 7 inch narrowed beam but im worried it would rub. im not worried about having shock towers or any of that either. heres a pic of my bug just for reference.

So it looks like a 4 inch it is. Next question, should I cut the tie rods or buy new shorter ones?

3". 4" or maybe 5" on stock offset. Aftermarket rims or disks will require a bit more cutting. I run a 6" on .5 offset repop BRMs and i rub. i will be making a 4" beam my next free weekend.

I Love your car! It just looks how a convertible should look (to me)

Just want to give you a warning about a 4" beam and your BRM repop's..
I was running a 4" prior to my current 6" beam, with the low et on those brm's the tires would rub the fender lips pretty bad up front..actually cut up a set of 135's on the sidewall and I had to replace them, also did a little damage to the fender lip.
With the 6"beam, it rubs the buckets but to me thats a far lesser evil than the fender edges. The price to ride low I guess. Just my 2 cents.

I'm running a 5" beam with 145/65/15 which is a little shorter than a 135. It rubs buckets & inner fenderwells on full lock. So on 135's you definitely get some rubbing, but some people's tolerances are more than others

NO no no.....not temps. I would never run temps. Firestone 125's

http://store.cokertire.com/125r15-firestone-f560-blackwall-tire.html

A lot of GFK cars fun them on their earlies.

From Link:
Firestone F560 tires are of radial construction and features a versatile design. The 125R15 is the smallest size available for a 15-inch wheel, so its perfect for a classic compact car, like a Volkswagen or Citroen, or even the front of a hot rod. These tires are very affordable and only available in blackwall form.
