I have a 67 campmobile (possible late production)and I'm trying to figure out what colors were originally painted on the exterior. The M-Code plate lists the following:
523907
I can't seem to match these numbers with the chart. Does anyone know what they are?
Also, I have complete Westfalia camping equipment that appears to be original, but the plate reads SO-67 ... 1969. My M-Code plate includes the code 108 (Westie SO-42 kit). Do I have the original kit, or did someone put another kit in the bus?
Thanks! |

Corina,
Good questions.
I think Westies have a different M plate readings. Where the code for the paint and upholstery usually are,Westys have there
camper code,,yours reads 523907 instead of the paint numbers.
The Westy kit you have is from a 69 camper.
They were SO-67.
Look inside door panels and engine compartment for orig. paint clues. |

| One more question. What about the date on the M-Code plate? Does it stand for October 3rd? |

523907 should be upper body color (52), lower body color (39) and interior color (07). Not sure what the colors are at this time. Will look around.
And by dropgates.com articles, the last set of #'s should be the VIN, but there is no 7 for a first number. If it was a 1, as would be the case by their site, it would make your bus to have been made in Oct. 1962
Here, will just give their link for the M-Code plate ID:

earlyman3,
I thought lotus white is L282/42 and would appear as 42 on the M plate. 424283 for top and bottom colors and upholstery since its not a deluxe. Please let me know what source or book you have,Id like to pick up a copy
for my references. Thanks |

| i found that on vintagebus registry. those numbers were wacky and didn't read like they should. since i didn't have the VIN i used one of my own (not a lotus white bus) that the way it came out. that set of numbers describes the exterior color(s) and interior pattern or color. it's easier when you have the bus nearby so you can compare notes and say "oh, yeah...." |

I was just looking through the Split Bus literature and found the Campmobile color codes. On the 1966 Campmobile page, the first page of text lists the following:
Exterior Colors
523 506 dove blue
523 642 velvet green
523 907 pearl white |
