Ok so I have another question.... The oil plug under just under the distributor is not flush with the case. Its snug in there, and it was finger started. So my questions are how tight can I torque and how many threads inside the case is enough?
Thanks |
With some sort of thread sealer I would think that a couple full threads would be enough. I'm guessing you're thinking it should be tapped a little deeper but now the short block is together? Some grease on the tap will catch the chips if you're careful. Take it slow and clean the chips out as you go. I wouldn't tighten it more than about 8 or 10 lbs. Any one with more experience?
I couldn't help but notice....before you mount the sheet metal underneath the pulley, if you take a file and round off the brass full flow return fitting it will be way easier to bash said sheet metal to clear.... |
Thanks alb, yea I checked the tin with the pulley in place and I was able to get good clearance after a bit of modification. |

Help from the samba world....Ok been breaking my head over this. If you look at the studs in front of the intake you'll notice that its longer then its suppose to be. Then the studs in the second picture it's to short. Now I have been trying to figure if I place the studs in a wrong pattern but it seems to me this is the only way they can go. Your help and experience will be highly appreciated.

A DP type-1 uses THREE lengths of studs. longest on the bottom, medium on the top outside, and the shortest in the top middle
Is it possible your studs are from a singleport? |

Modok did not recognize you without your avatar.
Modok I'm trying to figure out if it was a single port but if I recall correctly it was a dual port. How can I figure this out modok. If you look at the pictures there not much of a difference from one in the middle to the one on the outside..
Thanks man |

I guess we have to measure some normal vw studs to determine what is normal, and then you can try to figure out what's going on with yours
Off hand I don't remember how long they are, believe it or not
I'll measure mine, and you measure yours, and lets meet back here in 20 minutes |

Mark, yea I tried that well I measured the stud sizes and It would not work any other way so, modok hit it on the nail, it must have been a single port. Now I hope that I can find some dual port studs to replace the ones that don't fit instead of buying a complete kit...
thanks mark |

As luck would have it I have a box of studs right here next to the computer, but I had to go in the bathroom and get a tape measure from next to the fish tank
The long ones are about 9 3/8"
The medium ones are just under 8" |

I'm not even going to ask why the tape measure in the bathroom
Yea, I'm going to have to change up, they are from a single port. Dam start over again.
Ok modok let me pick your brain again. So how many of what length will I need to convert?
Or will I need to change all of them? |

The funny thing is you didn't ask why there is a fish tank in there..............
If the case has the deep stud mod, you will need an extra long one, otherwise it is like I said above. Check to see if the lengths I listed will work, they should unless your engine is really wide or something.
i'll go and fine a short one to measure, none in this box |
