Lipped rear fender wells started after 1961, so no, it's not right.

Here you go. I find if you take pics with phone on web ready, most will fit this format without resizing.

I could be wrong, but to me that looks just like my late January
1963 15 window with outward vents and lip on wheel well.
In other words a '63 bus.
What does your M-code plate read?

Looking at the David Eccles Specification guide for VW transporter
1950 - 1967 It says the 1963 model year for export buses started
30 july of 1963 and in Germany it began 1 October 1962.

I'm thinking your bus is a very early 1963 that was fitted with M- code
043 which states : complies with Swiss market regulations.
Apparently it was intended for export to that country originaly.
Unfortunately I was not able to locate M- code 097.

Basicaly to answer your original question, I believe the vents and wheel
well lip are correct for your bus. I also believe its an early sixty-three model, not a sixty-one as you were told.

The rear wheel arch started with VIN # 971550 according the VW book Progressive Refinements:

Do you think the rear arches have been replaced?

Maybe they started earlier... if your rear wheel arches are original.

It would be interesting to know if it came with the humpback front seat or the 1/3 2/3 front seat.
Do you have a pic of the seat stand area?

Here are the two links for the fotos of the seats.
It would be good to know for 100% how this Samba was built originaly because I would like to do the restauration as it was originaly.

If you have any idears from where I can get this informaiton please let me know.
Thanks
Peter

"Seat stand area" is the area where the front seat(s) sit.

It looks like a bench seat.
I believe Clara is trying to ask you if your Bus has these types of seat mounts:

Notice the 3 adjustments.

I think yes?

Your bus is certainly a 62 model year given the COA, build date, and VIN. I am no expert on this but after a bit of research I believe the VW Book is in error as every 62 bus I've been able to find a picture of has the lip on the wheel well. I suspect the change began with the 62 model year bus and since your bus is a late 62, I would have no doubt that the wheel well lip is original.

I even found a 62 with a VIN of 827XXX that had the lip which makes that bus a very early 62, likely made in August of 1961.
