new to type 3's

i bought callams 71 notch

big plans but no time to touch it at the moment
been hunting around for adapter plates to fit some five spoke supremes with no luck, plan on painting it gloss black with a couple of modifications suck as remove the big late model blinkers with something a little more subtle

hopefully rolling later this year

Whats a 5 spoke supreme? just remember that the adaptors arent road worthy and will push the track out.

I tried and couldnt figure out the reverse lockout and the shifts felt way too stiff and notchy.

Hey guys,
My squareback is soon going to be at the painting stage and I have no experience at all with painting, so I'm wondering how you guys go about it?
I've been doing lots of reading online, but I'm not sure which way to go. I can't really paint the car where it is, as it lives out in my mum's garage/carport and there's not really enough room and it's kind of open to dust and bugs, etc.
I've found a place that rents out their spray booth and oven for $300 a day and the girl there reckons most people are there for about 6 hours or so.
The price sounds reasonable to me, but was wondering how I would go about it? The fenders are currently off. Would you prime it at home and then take it to the spray booth and do the rest in a day? I would have thought it would take longer than a day to sand, paint inside and out and then clear coat?
But like I said - I dont really have experience painting cars, so I'm not sure.
The place is in Bayswater and the car lives in Point Cook, so it would be a massive distance to tow!
Just wondering how you guys go about painting your cars??

I like the idea of painting the inside at home. Unfortunately, the space at home isn't really big enough to be able to paint the outside properly.

Well, IF you can get a fairly wind free day, you could use saw horses and some 2 by 4's to hold the fenders so you can shoot the insides (car out of the carport). Then after they're shot, move them out of the carport. You can even pull the doors off, and do them seperately. If you do it in sections (or a piece at a time) you'll have more room to play with in a limited area. Break it up into smaller sections. Look at the guys in the UK or Europe, their garages aren't much bigger than a tool shed, but they still do the work in them. But you can always use plastic sheeting to close off your car port to make an improvised spray booth. Or even shoot parts of it outside IF it's not windy. If you look in the TOOB thread of this forum, you'll see Dong is painting a bus in his carport (the entire thing). Now that's an undertaking.

When doing the inside, try to do the center (or 1 side) and work your way out. Also try not to set it up in a way that you're overspraying what you just shot.
Having sprayed a VW Thing (it's open and everything gets painted), was probably the hardest vehicle I've ever done. That's because everything gets painted, you have to really be aware of what's wet paint, and what's left to paint. Hoses and feet were my biggest issues, as you're limited in the space you have available to you. Good luck, and I hope this helps.
