Chassis is at the sand blaster. I need a set of rear control arms. Anyone have a clean set, close to me? I ordered my stainless tilt column.

How fast was this?! I got the chassis back the same day. Now it’s time to weld it and set up the rotisserie. I will not be able to work on it until Wednesday though. I had no idea it would be back this fast and did not allowed time for it.

Out of courosity, how much does it cost to get a pan blasted in NY? (just to compare with my local guys prices)

Unfortunately, I don’t know yet. I have not got the bill. One thing though, my price will be cheaper than the average New Yorker because the powder coater who does my blasting is my neighbor.

Just saw this thread for the first time. I can't wait to see this in May! BTW, looks like we're going to be here over the winter so I'm going to start breaking down the Manxter for all the winter work I'm planning including getting those interior side panels in. Still need to find some freaking 1/8" MDF though!

Just some logistics on mine. I did work on my customers though. It’s been a week for hell around here. (In a good way. Lots of work.) Tomorrow we were supposed to make a frame shortening jig. This is something I have been putting off for a long time but seeing as I have four to do at the same time, it has to be done. Anyway… The steel we ordered did not show up. Tomorrow will be all about cleaning and prepping the little things.

I do have a needs list.
Rear control arms with little to no rust. The arms I have, has way to much rust to get the finish I need.
OE Gia front disk backing plates.
Miata seats.

BTW, This is a car we built last winter. The customer is selling it becouse we are building another one with him.

Tom - we are in the middle of tearing down the Manxter for the Mendeola S2 chassis swap and will be selling the VW suspension. The rear has flipped trialing arms & Sway-A-Way adjustable spring plates. The front beam is adjustable with new ball joints, dropped spindles and a 1 season old steering box. We are keeping the brakes. The pan is already sold. Do you need any of these nice clean parts? Tom

11-12-11
The steel I have been waiting for more than a week still is not here. I decided to move forward with the body repairs.
One buggy dies to save many. Years ago when I first started playing with fiberglass I learned patching this stuff was a huge pain and a gamble; not knowing if you were going to get the dreaded “halo”. Yes, I know building and sanding is the preferred method for most guys but not for me. I felt there was a better way. I started thinking about it and came up with a theory and then this solution. I thought because FG resin is a liquid that hardens with a chemical reaction it would have some form of residual moisture still in it. My thought was thru time it would dry out and stabilize shrinking a bit along the way. With that when you patch an old piece of glass say 5” round with new strand the patch would shrink ever so slightly and create the halo. It just hit me one day to take a bit of old fiberglass and use it as a stabilizing base for the hole. Well, it worked. I have done countless patches with this method with success and thought I would share it with you.
Today was 11 hours of making patches, scabs and grinding holes on two bodies. Not that much fun but it had to get done. I always have vintage fiberglass hanging around for this kind of repair. I simply cut the piece I need using a template from the hole. Try to get as tight a fit as posable. You will see square patches. I will be drilling the corners after the patch is cured. Square patches and fiberglass can be a problem. I continue to clean the holes with a die grinder and fit the pieces. The larger patches are held in using what I like to call “scabs” Made from ABS or plastic covered plywood, depending on the application. We use aluminum tape to hold the small pieces in place. I then use the die grinder to clean the small holes and wash everything with acetone and proceed to dam with the aluminum tape as well. This will do two things. One, It will help hold filler strand in place. Two, It will prevent the resin from flowing over the body that would be a cleanup nightmare. You will also notice I am cutting the patches strategically from the old piece of glass to get as close to the hole shape as I can. Take note of the old fuel tank hole. The fender shoulder came real close to the shape of the hood. You will also see a 70 pound roll of 2 ounce chop. This shows I am not being frugal. This method really works. After the patches on my buggy I will be adding a layer or two of chop over the complete under side as the Manx II bodies are super thin. I will also be adding loom tubes to the sides. For this I use 1 ¼” bilge pump tube as it is only $10.00 for 24’. Vacuum hose is like $30.00 for 12’.
One more thing, I removed the “BF Meyers tag. I hope I don’t get in trouble with the “Vintage police”.

Very Happy Looks like a hit from a shotgun, Tom, with all those patches. But I know it'll be done right and the end result will be stunning. Nice job thus far!
