Can anybody help trace this plate, I believe it is from Wiesbaden, Germany around 1954. Is it possible to find out the registered owner from back then? It reads ?-68-6363
Thanks.

I thought about getting one from them once but the font and spacing looked a little off.

old thread revival Very Happy

I believe my car was purchased new at Autohaus Ritzinger oHG - Eggenfelden July 1963

(I apologize, I know wrong forum but I searched and couldnt come up with a better place to ask)

All paperwork I have looks like the original license plate in 1963 was 190-Z-549. Is that even German? It doesnt look like any format I've seen. Possibly Czech? Or Austrian? I'd like to confirm origin, and get reproduced

Thanks in advance for any help

2 documents I have stating this #

190-Z-549 is not a german licence plate.
Thought it is written in german but even the title looks not like a usual german one. Eggenfelden is close to the border and the other bill is from Vienna. So it is from Austria maybe?

As the owner has an USA adress. Could it have been a member of the US forces with a special military licence plate?

It's probably a German "Zoll" plate for export.

thank you, it did not make sense to me either

It is possible he was in the US military, but I don't think so. Car was purchased July 4th 1963, Owner to leave Germany August 15 1963, car departed August 23 1963, shipping reciept is from Bremen and his hotel was Hotel Stadt Rosenheim Munchen

I suppose he could have been on a tour of duty, had leave for a few weeks before returning home, and purchased the car to only drive a few weeks. From my reseach on the original owner, I think he would have been in his late 40's, so I assumed he went for a visit, and not for military.

Here is what has been published about the car. I do not know if it is 100% accurate though

Quote:
As I understand, the car was purchased abroad, by John Maderik of Woodside NY, while visiting family and I do know the car spent it's 1st few months on the road all over Europe. I have receipts for service and even an envelope with the only writing stating the oil was changed in Piestany, Czechslovakia on 8/2/63. Many documents were included with the car, some of which are the letter from VW thanking Mr. Maderik for his purchase, in German of course, the cars' passport, international insurance papers, and the papers when freight was arranged to bring the car back to the US.

I have also tried to find any next of kin, children, etc. and have some following up to do.

Does anyone have a few pics of examples of an original 1950 German license plate? My 1950 split was sold at the Otto Glockner dealership in Germany. Tim

If sold by Otto Glöckler in Frankfurt it had the old black with white writing AH - 4.... number plate.
AH is for Amerikan zone in the area of Hessen in Germany.
Like that https://www.schildershop24.de/nummernschild-ah-ame..._listpos=3
